September 2010 Changes for F10 5-series
Noticed that some of our F10 enthusiasts haven't caught the changes announced regarding the F10 (and all other BMWs) for September 2010 Builds.
There is also info regarding ConnectedDrive updates. Please reference this PDF: http://f10.5post.com/forums/attachme...9&d=1278946032 |

Are the ipod changes a hardware upgrade or will the changes be available by software upgrades-I am getting my car at the end of July.

I spoke to my dealer about this and he said a couple of weeks. The factory closes for August so placing an order late July will be a Sept build...

Upset
I am so upset about the September changes to the 550i, I would have hoped when you buy a 2011 u get all of the 2011 standard options...standard...this is not a good start when your a new customer to BMW and you just spent 70+ thousand on a car.....My car just went into production is there anything that I can do....

They will sell your car to someone else and they will sell you another car. Unless your current build is the last car they can or will ever sell, they are BSing you. For instance, in March I had the dealer in my area order two cars: a 535i and a 550i both to my specs as I could not decide between them. I put down no deposit. I accepted neither car as I decided to wait for Sept production to get the camera package. Both of these cars were sold soon after I refused them. No hard feelings. They knew that if I didn't buy them, someone else would. So unless your dealer is particularly mean-spirited, this should be doable with smile.

WTF! It's still my2011 and I've got a dated car with only 600 mi on the odo. And it's hardware/sftwr based changes which means NO retrofit. Did they actually start the memo with "...in keeping with sales momentum.."?! Sounds like lots of cancelled orders for current builds. But as someone said, they'll just sell current ones to some hapless consumer - like me.

Sept Updates
I would like to benefit from these updates but I believe my build is supposed to be in late August for mid-Sept delivery, so I will just miss out.
I spoke to my dealer who says that if I try to change my "slot" I might not get the car until 2011, which when today's buyers are being scheduled for... Bugger. I have not asked for the USB interface as I am getting the HDD upgraded satnav, dealer said I wouldn't need one, but am wondering if I should try to change my slot. Any thoughts, I am not sure how these things work and if the dealer is giving me the full picture. Have ordered a 520d, auto, imperial blue, venetian beige leather, prof satnav, light ash wood, one or two other bits. Also had sort of decided (after the order) to add the Logic 7 hifi, but again was put off at the possibility of losing my build slot. I have not seen the imperial blue (well, I'm only spending £32k so it's not a big issue) but if anyone has one or has any pics, I'd be keen to see them. Thanks in advance if you can offer any help. ...sorry should have read the thread more carefully...
...so the factory closes for all of August?
So my car is not being built in July for sure, so must be being built in early September? How long does it take to build an F10 520d? 3 or 4 days? Then to the dealer by mid-Sept? Maybe I have been lucky after all. If I opt for Logic 7 hifi and possibly ambient lighting, will I keep my slot? Surely if I am just in a queue what does it matter what the spec is? Or am I just being a bit of a knob over this? T |

Tony,
Call another dealer and ask them if I was to custom order a 520d what is the fastest I can get it? I've heard the F10 is backordered, but I don't know about getting it in 2011. Seems a bit exaggerated. I'll answer some questions, but these are related to Canadian specs and order process. Some of the info may be incorrect in UK/EU, but most is probably similar. USB vs. upgraded nav: In Canada, we have USB standard. This is in the centre console. If one gets nav (we only have the highest level nav, the one you ordered), they get an additional USB in the glove box. Difference? The one in the glove box is used for copying music from a USB stick to the internal drive. I may be wrong, but I don't think you can play music from a USB or iPod through the USB plug that comes with the nav system. I'm going to my dealer on Monday, so I'll try it out if I remember. So if I'm not mistaken, you still need USB interface for iPod playback. Factory is closed for August (at least based on what I've read in different BMW forums over the past 5-6 years). If your car is coming in September, it's likely getting built in July. If it's coming in late September, I suppose it's possible that it gets built in September and you'll have the changes implemented. You can still change options until before it enters production. So if you wanted to change colour or add something, you can do so if it's not built already. But check with another dealer to see what happens if you order a new car today. |

@Tony Brentwood
Hi Tony, My Dad signed a final order last week on a 530D and his car is due to delivery late Septemeer early October. The 520D may have different lead times as it could be moe popular the highest volume seller etc. As far as we were told the Com Box functionality is on all 5 series cars build in or after week 35. So that's arround the 1st of September. So if your car is scheduled for build in August thats a bit of a pain! You will have one of the last cars without this functionality. The factory does shut but I don't know how long for. Best thing to do is ask your dealer what status your car is at, we got slightly different info from a couple of different dealers but Dad's car was at status 1100 and he changed some options last week no problem. His dealer said that was the last opertunity to change and when it goes to status 1200 it can't be changed any more. However another dealer implied it could be changed at status 1200. It seams dealers can trade build slots so as already suggested it might be worth ringing round other dealers and see what they say if only to get further info to have a more informed discussion with your current dealer, I doubt you can break your current contract completely. I suspect your dealer can get you an earlier slot if they try. Re the Logic 7 if I can I would definitely add it we thought that standard stereo lacked base when playing Eric claptoion, they didn't have a 5 with the logic 7 speakers but they did have a 3 and that sounded brilliant! The Imperial Blue is nice, but it can look very different in different lights. Its quite a dark blue in dull light its easily mistaken for black! If you look on the BMW approved used car site you will see some examples. We were lucky enough to see 3 cars in Imperial Blue including one on the street, didn't choose it in the end. We actually found emailing BMW customer services from the website worked really well in the end got some very detailed responses regarding inteiror colours. I would check that USB is included with the naviation, I didn't see that stated anywhere but it does sounds logical but I would double check. Hope that helps! Good luck! Cheers P |

I have been told that my build will be week 33, 2 weeks before this upgrade.
Apart from the various "intersting but how much would I really use them" upgrades is the full post code search on the upgraded Professional SatNav. My response: "What, you mean you can only search by partial post codes???" This is ridiculous, I am spending £32,000 on a car that cannot even do what the cheapest TomTom can do. And I paid £1400 for the Proferssional SatNav alone. And I missed the upgrade by 2 weeks? You must be joking. I asked if I could push the build back to get the upgrade and they said yes, but the next build slot is December and I might get it in January!!! Four months! I can't believe it, how can BMW not have a proper SatNav for £1,400 when I can buy a decent TomTom for £100! BMW? I am not impressed. |

I am deciding whether or not to spec the professional nav, shall I save myself some cash and spend on visibility pack instead?? Is it worth the money???
