I put 15% all the way round on my Dark Graphite Metallic 535 (very illegal in NYS). Makes a huge difference in the appearance of the vehicle, and keeps the interior much cooler.
Check your local laws. |

I put 35% non metallic on mine in Houston. Garage parked day and night here, but still worth it for when you're driving around or out shopping somehwere with only a surface lot.

I live in LA, we are in a heat advisory right now 95+, and triple digits in the valleys. I put up the rear sunshade. I have the custom windshield sunshade made specifically for the F10 (same as one for E60). The car can vent the interior for 30mins twice a day, you pick the times. I'm not sure if it's the insulation of the car,the tint, the vent ability or the ventilated seats I got, but this is the coolest car I've ever driven. No more sweaty back syndrome. Tint Requirement for Texas-registered vehicles
This is a great website and I appreciate the ideas and suggestions offered by my fellow Bimmer owners. Here is some information I would like to share with those folks who live in Texas and are considering tinting their BMW (or other vehicle):
Note to all Texas Bimmer residents: In the process of determining the best tint film for my September 16th ED 2011 535i, I was able to obtain information on the Texas state law for tinting - you may want to keep this law in mind when ordering tint for your BMW. Persons who live in other states would be well advised to check their states' law pertaining to tint levels. Texas law restricts the amount of window film darkness on all side windows combined with any existing tint already in the glass to no darker than a number total of 25% LT (LT = light transmission). If the car has 2 outside door mirrors (one on each side) it allows any darkness on the rear wind shield. If the car has only 1 outside mirror the car is only allowed a total of 25% LT on all windows including the rear wind shield. It does allow front windshields to be tinted measured down from the top of the windshield 5 inches or to the AS1 line which ever measurement comes first (most cars have this AS1 line & some don't). Total of 25% LT allowed here as well. 1987 and older are not excluded from this law any more. Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line. Front and Back Side Windows: Must allow more than 25% of light in. Rear Window: Any darkness can be used. Sticker Requirements: A sticker to identify legal tinting is required between the film & glass on the driver’s side window. www.txdps.state.tx.us/vi/Misc/faq/tint.htm Last edited by Z3_F10TxFan; 07-19-2010 at 08:59 AM.. 30% Madico Wincos Premium tint all the way around. Not sure if it's the black interior, but outside looks like limo tint. Inside, you can totally see out of the car even at night. If you're in LA area, send me a PM. It's $220 out the door. Lifetime Warranty.

While I like the look and heat reduction properties of tinting, I have always found the slight distortion / lack of crispness at night out of the back window unappealing. Maybe I have had the wrong kinds of tints but find that at night, for instance, headlights have a certain "sunburst" property to it. Has anyone found a tint that does not screw things up?

NJ no tint front windows unless you have a medical excuse from NJ. PM if you want details. With medical you can do 35%. I usually do 35 or 30 on our cars. This time I will do 35 all windows and 50 to the entire windshield. 35 is a little dark at night and hard to see potholes.

Not much of a tint guy myself but ... thats a pretty good job gato! The difference between outside to inside vs. inside to outside is incredible.

In Los Angeles, it's a must to have tint. We have 300 days of sun, that can fry the inside of your car if you don't take precautions.

I would never tint my windows using film unless the tint is original from the manufacturer. I decided for Ziebart films for my E60 right after its delivery; then; they have managed to spill water inside the dash from beneath the windshield and caused two electronical units get damaged (the car had only 40 km. on clock; cost of repair $3000; which of course they paid; 3 week waiting period for repair as the car would not go). And after getting the car, I noticed it is not possible to use polarized sun glasses as the UV protection feature makes the view purpleish (right word/spelling? sorry). Further, the service stated that the aftermarket films void the warranty of the automatic windows (even if you get them through them). So IMO, it is better to keep everything original.

Thanks to gatoman39 for the tip, the place also did a great job. The blue shade of Madico Wincos fits well with my DSB color.
