I agree with you, F10 has really good in handling and braking and is one step superior to E60 for being an executive luxury sedan. The 8 speed transmission is awesome. I have not seen any other competition to beat F10's numbers. I love the F10.

E60 550i vs F10 550i
Currently lease a 2010 550i MSport and had the opportunity to take another (3rd) extended test drive in a loaded F10 550i. My opinion: Accellerating down the same stretch of sweeping highway, it just can't match the E60 for sport driving feel. I still get a grin on my face in the E60 on this strech of road, while the F10 felt too fat, isolated. I'll probably get one when my lease is up in a couple of years, but unlike previous switchovers, I'm not so excited at the prospect. Hopefully BMW will do something in the interim to fix the numb on center steering, crippled multi-contour seats, add some sport back into the MSport package, etc.
Finally, I have heard rumors that the N63 V8 will get a power boost since the F01 7 is to get a power boost (probably at LCI) in reaction to MB's new more powerful, natrually aspirated V8 coming in a year or two.

I echo what Mr. Delvek said. Its really frustating to see many quoting magazines without actually having driven the F10. Every single person that has been in my F10 raves on its responsiveness and its exact and precise stearing. the braking is superv for a vehicle of this size and this much horsepower (the 550) and it is one writers opinion that an Audi or an infinity are better total machines than a bavarian behemoth. I am anxious to see when the M5 comes out how many of the same people will be jumping back on the bandwagon. You are either a true BMW man/woman or you are not. Point blank. The joy is in knowing that few automobiles can compare to the total package and can give you the driving pleasure that almost all BMW's do no matter what your preference in driving style is. Again before you quote, try to take a test drive so that you can make your own comparisons. Its getting old when the quoters dont even own an F10......

If you're too lazy, I can even quote that for ya (just ignore the "old/previous 535i" part): Quote:

I see no logical reason to do so - first of all, I currently have no intention to purchase this model, so I don't want to waste my (and dealer's) time on driving it. Plus my testdrive will obviously not change the opinion of the author of that review so those quotes will stay as valid as they were regardless of my personal subjective perceptions. Not to mention that one of the deficiencies which I quoted (unrelated to steering) actually exists even on the model that I currently drive every day.

Old 535i has evolved into the new F10 535i, so I don't consider as a competition.
From Car and driver comparison test with M37 and A6 535i had the best 0-60 MPH (5.4 seconds) Quarter mile was best at 14.0 seconds (M37 also had 14.0 seconds) Skid pad was 0.86g (M37 had 0.82g, A6 had better 0.88g) Braking 70-0 was at 163 ft (M37 was 171 feet and A6 was 161 feet) So new 535i definitely performed better than M37 in handling and almost same as A6 and we all know these numbers are much better than MB E350. That's why I say 535i is still the best in performance against the current competition.

I have no clue why BMW made the decision to remove the adjustable side bolsters and just imagine how surprised former E60 owners must be when they find out.

Well, it is different from Edmunds, for obvious reasons (different locations, different equipment, different people were driving the cars, etc.). I'd say C&D's numbers are more valid, though, considering they compared the cars on the same day Nice to see that at least in terms of numbers the F10 is still being competitive with actual sport sedans.

You've got a pretty wrong impression about my posts. Most of the car manufacturers have their "good" models and "bad" models, I just happened to get a relatively "bad" one and I got the impression from reviews that the new 5-series will likely feel the same to me. That doesn't mean I would never consider getting anything else made by BMW (the current 335i or 335is are an excellent cars, the future 3-series might be too if it won't get same "treatment" the new 5-series got) once my lease expires. |
