Will Smartphone Intergration kits Play Radio Application Through BMW's Audion System
I have the iphone smartphone intergration kit. My iphone has several music radio applications. When I access my iphone's media, while playing a radio application using the integration kit, the car starts playing the radio for a mili-second before switching over to the music contained in my ipod. How can I get my car to play my radio applications throughout the car's audio system….continuously?
I would like to enjoy listening to live radio stations around the world while out on an excursion in my Bimmer, but the car won't let me. Can anyone offer a solution? |

Most cars that connect to an iPhone can only play content from the iPod part of the phone. Same with bmw. Your only solution is to use Bluetooth with crappy sound or the aux connector with slightly better sound.
Bmw have told us they are working on a way to control more parts of the phone on the later built cars, up until now the have done a Facebook control. Who needs facebook while driving? Silly, their time would be better spent on spotify or radio stations. |

Thanks Kave. I have found that the Smartphone integration does access my iPhone's address book to incorporate it into the navigation function. But as I was saying, the radio station DOES play for a split second before switching to the iPod music. My guess is if it plays the radio for even a split second, it has the ability to play it a lot longer.
Secondly, when I select the iPod feature in my car, the music automatically starts playing. It doesn't allow me to stop/pause/play. I would like to have more control; is it possible? This issue could be connected to my original issue. If I could get the iPod to stop, I could get the radio application to play inside the car. Your thoughts... |

same issue but try this:
pandora is what I use. plug into your adapter but don't have external devices selected on your idrive. fire up the app so you see playing then select external device on idrive. it may default and start playing tracks from your iPod playlist but just hit the play button in the app again. |

Given: Well, its not a supported feature yet, that is why it plays fir a few seconds. Some people are able to get it to play a bit longer etc but it is NOT intended to work at all. Some have found it to work slightly better if all ipod music is removed etc etc.
All in all it is not intended to work with other sources than the iPod part of the phone. The controls lack pause and stop for all sources which can be a bug or a missing feature. On other cars playback pauses if you just mute the volume but not on f10 cars. |

I faced the same issue. So, i got me one of them external Iphone "snap base" kits that plugs into the lighter. It includes (charger + Aux).
Now I play my radio apps straight from my Iphone, bypassing the navigation screen all together. It's also easier to control. |

I tried it over Bluetooth today, worked perfectly to stream spotify. No track info in the iDrive display though.

given:
1. Pair the phone with the car so you can make phone calls etc. Make sure to tick in both calls and music over bluetooth. 2. Go to "source" and choose bluetooth as playback device. Now the iphone starts playing from the iPod part. Just pause that and start playback from anything in the Phone. It's supported and just works. To me as a Computer application specialist for 16 years the iDrive is overly complicated. I have had to help customers with their BMWs for a lot of stuff and I still never now exactly which buttons to press on the iDrive buttons to do what I like. |

Kav:
I did not see an option to "make sure to tick in both calls and music over Bluetooth". Do I need the iPhone 4; I currently only have the iPhone 3GS |

All 2011 F10 owners:
Is anyone aware of any device (any Blackberry, iPhone, HTC etc) that if connected through the console USB or the console AUX, it will: 1) play streaming Pandora through the car's audio system, and 2) display the Pandora screen info through the BMW idrive screen? I have a BlackBerry Bold 9650. I can stream Pandora music through the vehicle audio system, but cannot get the Pandora screen info to be viewed on the vehicle iDrive screen. Thanks |

You may have to unpair and pair your phone again for it to show up. The second video here describes the options clearly. He was NOT using an iphone4 and the BT streaming option is there.
