What springs are good?
I am getting my 528i this week and was wondering what spring should I get if I wanted to have better performance?! Any suggestions??

I currently have H&R sport springs. Can't complain. Descent drop for the price and the car feels stiffer and handles tight turns better than stock. Although jumpy at higher speeds. You'll see your passengers bouncin' around a bit

I agree with luigimaster24 about the decent price and better handling, but the bounce at higher speeds has prompted me to swap my H&Rs for RDs. Too bad it'll be a couple of weeks before I get them

Low speed bounce or softness is gone, for example, during braking and acceleration, I could make the front bounce with the stock springs by repeatedly hitting the brakes and releasing them. Also, when you accelerate from a stop with the stock springs, the front end would pop up. With the H&Rs, that's gone.
With the H&Rs, all the low speed bounce is gone. But, at freeway speeds, the stock springs were much better balanced. With the H&Rs, when you hit dips in the freeway, the front almost feels like the struts are hitting the bump stops while the back feels almost feels too stiff. It's hard to describe without actually feeling it. As far as the RDs go, I haven't gotten them yet, so I couldn't comment on them. I'm hoping they are in between the stock and the H&Rs. |

The best way I can describe it is that when hitting a dip at high speeds on the freeway (70-85 mph) the suspension doesn't feel like it absorbs the dip but rather you feel how you bounce up and down inside the cabin as you pass through the dip.
This is the only downside to the H&R's IMO. Other than the "bounciness" at higher speeds , the drop , the stiffness and cornering are an improvement from stock and are worth the swap. |

Thanks a lot, Lui and Vinfast for the elaboration. Another question is have you guys done an alignment for the wheels after the swap? My vendor told me to do so.

I've personally had RD's in my car for about 3 month and the ride like other already mentioned was 10X better then stock but I did also have some bounce at higher speeds.
To be quite honest if I had to choose today between H&R Sports & RD Sport I would go with the H&R Sports due to the price difference between the two. I don't think it's worth paying double for something that's truly not noticible between the two. I've driven in a few F10's with H&R and did not feel any difference. In regards to vinfast's issue about the front drop it might be a good idea to do the switch if you don't want the drive so low off the street. That's just my 2 cents. |

Schnitzer cosmetic kits are crap but the suspension parts are the result of some good old German engineering

im going with h&r's due to the price... i just cant convince myself to fork out $800 just for springs. I think I'd rather save and get KW's rather than drop $800 on just springs

You may be right. Your setup is way to go! I just can't justify the cost for the small amount of drop the F10 requires, even though I hate the gap. Maybe in time other companies will come out with coilovers and the prices will come down.

Also, another member, ROBD314, has a 535 M-sport with Adaptive Drive, and he doesn't have any bounce at higher speeds. |

I too was thinking about getting the H&R springs but after reading the posts preference seems to be for the RD.
I mentioned this to a guy installing the H&R springs here in Singapore and he mentioned that there are few types of H&R springs for the F10. The one he has available is the 'street' H&R springs, is this the one you guys have fitted(for those on H&R springs)? Thanks. |
