Shopping Cart Ding Removed
Parked the car at the hardware store in what I thought a good spot - right in a corner next to a parking lot "island" so there would be less risk of door dings.
But, while I was shopping, someone ditched their shopping cart on that island, and it rolled into the back of my Black F10. Came out and saw a 1" square white spot, almost like a white paint dab. Beneath it, a 3/4" wide ding on my back door - I saw the cart nearby, reset against a pole. It didn;t look too bad, but on a black car, it so noticeable. Black cars can look so nice when clean and "un-dung"; or trashy when dirty, especially when dings start to pile up. I called an independent BMW body shop, they led me to a specialist in the San Jose area who removes dings for $85. He came to my work and removed it - gulp - 5 minutes! Apparently, it was near the rear of the door where he has easy access through the reflector in the door jam area of the door. He used some some metal rods and a visual guide to smooth it out form the inside. It's perfectly flat again, and not even a scratch remains from the cart impact! I was amazed at how well it came out. So, don't despair if this happens to you. Get someone who does it often enough to be highly skilled.
