OEM wheels trade-in?
Hi there,
My 535i came with the 18" oem style 237 wheels (picture below)... seriously considering to get something aftermarket to have them replaced. I see many of you have changed your wheels here in HK... so what did you do with the oem wheels? Are there shops that would do trade-in? |

wow, bro those are worth some money in hk, post something here for a direct sale locally..
the shops will pay 3-4k for the 17s, these 18s more because ppl actually want to trade into them.. but the shops wont pay that much (maybe 8-10k, if they have a buyer), if you find a buyer directly the difference can be 10k |

Sealobo,
When I traded in my 17", they only pay me $4k and condition is right after I got my car from the dealer. They told me 18" worths more, $7-8K. Now you have clocked some milage on your RFT, they may pay you less if you trade in. But this is all bargaining, just talk to your wheel shop. Probably you can sell more to anyone who wants the 18". I remember a member ac888 wants the 18 or 19", you may PM him.

Just ordered my F10 535i from stock. Didn't want to wait until September!
I'm keen to change the stock rims (327). The car comes with Driving Dynamics Control, but no damping nor adaptive drive. I really like the 356 style (anyone got these in HK?), but am concerned that the ride might be a little harsh in HK (20"). I had and E46 M3 with 19" OEM wheels and it was an awesome car, but I don't really want that harshness in my F10 (not that it would be quite that harsh with stock suspension). So my two questions are: 1. would my car be able to take the 20" rims? 2. Any wheel shop recommendations? Thanks in advance. BTW, I was told I'd get the car in two weeks, and it has only the standard HK options. Black Saphire, Black Dakota/ Fineline Arthracite (good guys wear black!). Oh, and I will have some 17" 327 wheels for sale in about two weeks! Cheers, SK. |

SK, Congrats and welcome to the club! I have the 356 on my F10 and they look very good, probably the best OEM wheels from BMW for the F10. In terms of ride harshness, I did have the set with my F10 v1.0 which did not have DHP (long story). The F10's stock suspension are a bit soft and the 20" 356 will not be much harsher, if you use non-rfts (don't hink 20" rft exists for BMW sizes anyway) on them.
But even with the 20", some may feel the gap is still a little bit unsighty. Check RC3's car where he has a drop on the suspension. I was lucky in that when I ordered my 356 last year, the whole Hong Kong has 1 set and I didn't have to wait. Not sure about now. Didn't see many F10s with the 356 on the road, though. I got mine done thru Wah Kee tyre shop on Gloucester Road. Dealt with them for the past 10+ years and quite good, helpful, and fast. You may want to check there. They also sources the 356 for me, obvisously cheaper than BMW MSRP. Any tyres that you are looking to go with for the 356? I am using the P Zero Hero and they are excellent! But I may try the PSS after I am done with my P Zero, depending on how much I abuse the existing tyres

Thanks mlai. I'm familiar with your car from reading your posts on here. It's smoking hot! I'm very jealous! BTW - do you have more photos?
Will give your recommended tyre shop a call. Rough price? I had Pilot Sport on my E46 M3 18". Liked a lot, but the only thing I had to compare was the 19" rims I replaced them with which came with original Conti tyres. It's a shame the 356 doesn't come in an 19" variant. That would be a nice compromise. Lowering the suspension is something that I wasn't considering - so maybe just upgrading to 18" or 19" rims would be more sensible for me. How does changing the rims and/ or suspension outside the BMW "circle of trust" affect the warranty? One more question - does hassling the dealer speed up the delivery? I'm very impatient! Cheers. |

Just got my V2.0 this week. Weather is terrible so no good pics for the car yet. RC3 has done the suspension on his F10 so he's probably more familiar with how it may affect warranty. I replaced shocks on my 135i and I think the official position is that BMW will not warranty any problem that is affected/caused by aftermarket parts and/or additons. Realistically, they are probably just going to ignore any problems pertain to the actual aftermarket parts and its immediate systems.

Hi SK,
Another sapphire black, congrats. My 2 cents: Rims: 20" won't be harsh even without electronic damper. Today's low profile tires are very comfy. If compared to RFT they are even less harsh. Initially I was thinking about 19" too but eventually got 20". No regrets at all, 19" looks not as good. Guys in So. Cal. are switching to 21" now. Very sick. May be not for us in HK, road condition too rough. Suspension: Try out how you feel first with the stock. Personally I found it to have too much body roll, extremely. If you had the E46 M3 you will definitely feel it. I used to drive E46 too. The stock F10 without DHP is like a boat. My folks feel sick when I drive on windy roads. That's why I switched to sport springs. Different car now, no regrets on switching. If you ask me I say it's a must mod item. No warranty for the suspension after modding of course. My thinking is there will not be any thing wrong in one or two years time. By that time if the shocks screwed, just change to aftermarket ones. Many choices and better performance. Tires: PZero, Pilot Super Sport are very good. Can't go wrong with either of them. I have Advan Sport, a few K cheaper. Not worse compared to the other two since I am not tracking. Value for money. Tire profile more square at the edges, looks better. Wah Kee: A few of our forum members here swapped the rims there. Introduced by Mlai bro. Seems like a very good shop. I just ordered quite a bit there.

Hi SK,
Just curiously, why your 535 come with 18"? Did yours optioned with M pack? Mine comes only at 17" which is toooo small at any aspect nowaday IMO, F10 should be at least wear 19", considering it's huge body size

You guys are a wealth of information! I'm so glad I found this forum. Went with the family to Megabox today, where I was hoping to show the wife an F10 in the flesh (she was busy when I bought mine). We couldn't get a park until the 15th floor. Believe it or not, the first spare park we found was next to an F10 550i with 20" Autoart rims. NICE. Had to be a good omen!
I have to say that seeing 20" in the flesh was inspiring. Even my wife (who is the conservative one) said that the car/ wheel combo was stunning! @mlai - thanks for the comments re. warranty. Oh - and awesome pics! @RC3 - All sounds very tempting. Can you give more info about how exactly you lowered? Did you do just the springs? How much lowering? Did you get your Forgestar rims at Wah Kee? @Jacky328 - My 535 will come with the 327 rims, which are 17". No M pack. I bought a stock car, which didn't have any extra options. I agree about the 19", but after seeing 20" today, and looking at RC3's pics - 20" might be my choice. Would love to have a ride in a 20" equipped car (hint!). Cheers lads. |

SK,
Yeah, I think 20" is right for F10 as well. When are you going to pick up your car? I think you can decide lowering a bit later. IMO, it depends on whether the places that your F10 frequents will be accomodating. My F10 goes thru a lot of ramps and speed bumps and even without lowering, I still hear the front scrapping the ground occasionally

SK I have 19 wheels which I always thought was a big size. But on a f10 they really look small. In hindsight I should have gone for the 20"

Never too late to switch to 20" And after that, you will regret not going to 21"

Hi mlai. Should get the car in a couple of weeks. Will probably put the 20" wheels on fairly soon after delivery. I like the sound of RC3's H&R springs.
Undecided on wheels. So many nice options! I do know that the 20" equipped 550i i saw yesterday was "kick ass"! |
