iPhone + BMW Apps - Cable or Media Snap-in
Just got my 535ix (deep sea blue + cinnamon - gorgeous) - am using VZ iPhone 4 and apple usb cable plugged into USB. I can get my iPhone music (with albums), and now the newly released version of Pandora also with albums through BMW apps.
So.... what exactly would the snap-in media adaptor get me that I cannot get now? does the snap-in allow a case or must the phone be "naked"? I have a case-mate case) thanks all http://f10.5post.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif djinn |

The snap in adapter will get you the plugin which is the IPod out and video. Your phone cannot have a case to fit in the snap in adapter.

I actually have the snap-in Media adapter and 6NR. It will not accomodate a case over your iphone. And I do NOT like the ipod interface that the cradle gives. The interface that the car offers is much more flexible. The Plug-in interface will not let you view the album art in split screen and you can't scroll thru your playlist on the info display either, just advance or reverse thru the list without seeing what the song is. If I had it to do over, I would not have paid for the cradle. The video is cool, but when am I going to stay in my car in Park to watch a video?

Ict528i - sorry, your response confused me .... "snap-in Media adapter, ipod interface, cradle, interface that the car offers, Plug-in interface, .....' sorry to be thick but I am not sure what is what. I do have 6nr.
As I understand there are 2 methods of interfacing the iphone 4. USB (IPOD) adaptor in the armrest holder using an apple usb cable, and the snap-in media cradle. Are you saying you like the USB IPOD adaptor method rather than the snap-in cradle? To be honest, having to rip off my case everytime I go into my car is a show stopper. BTW, the Pandora app works great! thanks. djinn |

Yes, I absolutely like the USB interface over the cradle interface for iphone music by leaps and bounds. But I do think the cradle may improve my cell reception, further tests needed though. My cell reception in my location is usually very good anyway.

The cradle provides charging and better general reception at the expense of the interface elements as noted. Any case must be ditched to fit into the cradle. For short to medium rides in decent signal areas you are better off without the cradle, it seems.

However, I have a question myself. I have iPod integration and at the moment I have an iPod Nano plugged in to the USB interface with full album covers, etc. I ordered the iPhone 4 cradle. If I install the cradle and place the iPhone into it, can I still use my iPod Nano to access my music collection. My intent would be to use the cradle to: 1) charge the phone, 2) improve reception but not to access stored music on the iPhone. Is this possible?

Yes, you can use the ipod via USB and have the cradle charge the phone. Select ipod in the external devices menu rather than your iphone. I just confirmed it in the car.
