BMW OEM 312 rims
Hey guys,
I am a new comer here! I'll be getting my new 528i in 2 weeks, and I am thinking to get the BMW OEM 312 rims. I worry if these 20" rims will be too big and heavy for my 528i, consider my car has only 258hp. Anyone here is using 312 rims on a 528i? Do they significantly slow down the acceleration? Will these 20" rim affect its comfort alot? Pls give me some advise, thx! |

It will make yr 528I --- suspension , brake and the tranmission demage faster. And the torque will be reduced. I have tried to change my 528i rim to 356 20". But after 1 week, I changed it back to the original 17' Don't do that , I can sure you will regret as me. |

Torque is much less.
Brake is much difficult. The performance is reduced. Other minor problem is Noisy and more pumpy. I can feel that if use that 356 rim longer time. The brake , tramission and the suspension will be more faster be demaged than the 17"OEM . |

3 weeks ago I changed my 19" style 331 wheels & RFTs (GoodYear Excellence) for the 20" style 312 wheels in ferric gray and NON RFT Bridgestone RE050A. None of the above occured. Better roadholding/crisper steering , the same comfort and it actually feels a tad faster in accelleration, due to the less weight of the non RFT tyres I guess. Maybe the 356 wheel weighs more than the 312 wheel? |

OEM 17" (sytle 237) + Pirelli RFT = 26.08kg each.
OEM 20" (312) + Conti DW = 26.1kg Front, 26.76kg Rear. OEM 19" (style 351m) + Michelin PSS = 26.04kg Front, 26.44kg Rear It shouldn't really change anything coming from stock 17" with RFT to 19"/20" OEM wheels. My assumption only based on above numbers, I haven't got a change to try, eventhough I have them all. |

I figured that. You can get a F10 M5 and a 1M with some spare change.

Guys, do you have any idea if they going to offer the 312 wheel in smaller size, say in 19'' or 18'' anytime in the future?? Or I need to find the in aftermarket?

Thx for all the advises!
I suppose the performance and comfort should be going down after putting on the 20" rims, but just wondering if it affects too much. If it is only a minor issues, then I guess I will get them, coz I really like the rims, especially seeing the photos you put up here. |

if the weight is more close to the centre of the wheel (17"), it is more easy to start and stop to spin. (It is very simple physic knowledge) So if the weight is more away from the center , it will more difficult to star and stop. 20" is wider and 3" more from the center, it will make much more different. |

I have Dunlop Wintersport 17"RFT wintertyres and the difference with the ex 331 19"wheels is actually nothing irl. I think my 20"non rft's will eventually give a better and faster ride tbh.... |

But I think what BMMW meant is, wider wheel and tire will need more power to move them because it grip the road more (which is the positive effects, in return). |

My opinion, From 19" to 20" with the width, same brand of tires, and "correct" pressure, I would say at least 10% firmer. This is due to 5% different in tire profiles (40 vs 35) + "maybe" 5% from sidewall stiffness/flex. And don't forget, if you go 20", you will want to lower your car. That would further reduce the comfort. All in all, you should be looking at least 20% harsher ride. |
