Every year it seems like they change standards on something, so annoying. The first time they changed the HSPU it got me no rep’d a ton. I was so f’n pissed. The second part of that workout was brutal.

Not surprised 18.5 is a redo, Castro does it every year. The Re-Test.

I've only used the one we have at the gym, ssb, a few times. Like the idea but feels awkward kind of too me also. Never have attempted to go heavy at all using it.

Thanks wasn't terribly difficult. Bar I used at gym had too much flex and did little bounce before start and that made it feel heavy on way down but went up fine.

Paused 330 bench today. Went kayaking on lake prior and shoulders felt nice and warmed up. Think there is a bit more in the tank.

I have been looking at getting some knee sleeves. Do you like the ones you have? If so what are they?

I use Mark Bells STrong Sleeves 7mm, hands down best knee sleeves I’ve ever used! And I’ve used them all. They are super durable and made with a material that does not get stinky! Which is great if you sweat a lot in them. I’ve had them about 3 yrs now and they still going.

I squat ALOT, like 3 times a week, and do Olympic lifts. I mostly use them on heavy days, with my Lifters.

Like 1MOREMOD I also am in the 400+ Squat club. The knee sleeves have helped preserve my knees , and hit heavier numbers no doubt!

I am maxing at 405lb right now but just have never really felt like I needed anything... my knees have been sore after my heavy days more lately so I figured I should nip that in the bud right away! Thanks for the suggestion.

I moved from just wearing my running shoes to actually getting some squat/lifting shoes in the last year and I am sad it took me so long to do so, it helped my form a bit and my numbers a little more. Figured I should try some of the other things I see out to see how much I like them as well.

Smart to start using them now if you are having some knee soreness. I also suggest getting some VooDoo floss (Rogue) and using it on your knees prior to squatting. I found flossing my knees helped warm them up and getting the blood into that area.

Definitely do not squat, especially heavy in any shoe with a thick foam/air pocket bottom/base. It will create instability in the foot under heavy load. Lifters are great but I don’t rely on them all the time. I also squat in a “flat” shoe ie Nano/Metcon which have a zero drop and some lateral support. You want your feet in the most stable direct contact with the floor.

Hope this helped! #SqwatMafia

Yeah, I switch back and forth between my Adidas Powerlifts (3/4" lift I believe) and my Reebok crossfit shoes that have a super rigid sole but no lift. Reading Starting Strength helped me actually enjoy squat a little more as well, I had always done high bar but I find myself gravitating towards low bar 80% of the time now.

I will have to look into the floss. Right now I just start warmups with no weight and probably do 5 warmup sets of increasing weight before doing a work set.

Cool, sounds like you are on the right path. Yes definitely look into the VooDoo floss.

I got away from Low bar BS as it was bothering my back. I have made adjustments to my squatting regimen over the years. I stick with High bar now and my low back is 100 times better. I also use the “break” at the knee first technique in a more up right alignment which has been very beneficial for me personally. No more back, knee and hip pain.

What's voodoo floss? I went away from low bar also. Been squatting for years in wrestling shoes and just recently got some squat shoes myself and has helped with back pain and getting me parallel easier. Have previous knee surgeries and my right knee is limited to barely past 90 as is. Squatting on no meniscus for so long has taken the toll. Real issue now is hip pain which has gotten me off squat unfortunately for a while now.

Recently moved to Colorado and I’m taking a break from Crossfit (because doing WOD’s at a mile above sea level blows)

I am currently running the 5/3/1 Powerlifting program. Here are the numbers from my last testing week:

Back Squat 325 x4
Bench press 250 x2
Deadlift 445 x3

Strict press.. lets not talk about it
