Because you're one-upping the Alpinas with your stocks. Now, I imagine you had different settings on the jb4 at the time, but still. I've lost interest in the N63 tuning world due to the lack of flashing ability, but I would really like to know if the bigger turbos really do anything or not.

Matt....Thank you for validating what I have been saying all along.
You are one step closer to 548RWHP......It can be done P.S. I feel better now, I thought I was the idiot. I did the same thing when car came out of the shop. Last edited by 747flyboy; 04-05-2016 at 10:51 PM.. |

Badblack....OEM Turbos will pull 22PSI or better with JB S2 and proper octane since they have one less exducer and a different compressor geometry. No different then a High Bypass Jet engine with a bigger Compressor section usually has a lower EPR (Engine Pressure Ratio) Where a lessor bypass engine has a much bigger compression ratio.
I used to feel the OEM turbos where spinning much harder....Whatever its worth. |

Yeah, I didn't expect to hit a boost record or anything. I wouldn't doubt that the stock turbos can make as much boost as these, but these may be more efficient in that higher range. It would take a compressor map to really see how different I guess but that's something we can never get our hands on.

I see you're claiming a VERY high RWHP 747..
Care to share your dyno sheet? I just find it very hard to believe you managed to pull about 120whp above the average RWHP that the aggressive setting of BMS S2 puts out (which is roughly around 430whp) The dyno on n54tech that depicts 470 RWHP is not the S2 Terry released to the public because it was too aggressive. With no way to properly 'control' the bigger turbo I can't see you gaining THAT MUCH more power. I really just see it as an efficiency upgrade rather than a power upgrade. I'm not saying it's not possible, I'm just skeptical without any proof. I've been searching for a way to get more power out of this engine and if these turbos are the answer then so be it. Again, I'm not discrediting your findings, just using deductive reasoning until proven otherwise. |

He stopped replying to the thread. More octane does not = more power. In fact, that much octane, without a proper tune, could have negative effects toward power because you can't control timing. Also, no one knows if upping the PSI in the BFS section of S2 that high actually works (it just increases the fail safe by tricking the computer that it's not getting enough boost, not a addition to stock PSI) . Again, I'm not saying it's not possible, but 548 rwhp is a bold claim. He's must've dyno'd if he knows how much he's putting out or some 1/4 mile times. I just want to see if it's ACTUALLY been done.

I've seen no dynos for any of the people running Alpina turbos, other than ass-dynos, which are known to be inaccurate. That is why I posted earlier saying I was skeptical.

There should be no negative affects of running a higher octane fuel without a tune for it, besides wasting money. Increasing the octane increases your knock resistance which allows you to run more timing (or boost) because the fuel is harder to ignite (by accident in this case). If you are increasing the boost without being able to turn down timing then higher octane increases the safety of doing so.

I will hopefully have time to get some dyno time in soon. I don't know what to expect. I don't know what my baseline from before either is. I'm just hoping to show something.

Sorry guys. Out of the country again. I will post the Dyno sheet ASAP. Matt is correct on octane and ability to run boost. Check my thread with OEM turbos achieved 498RWHP.
I did more modding with the Alpinas when obtained the 548RWHP, will post soon. |

N63 Tune Is Available But........
Technica Motorsports Has a tune for the N63 and can do a custom tune
if your Bmw does not have the Bmw customer care package update from Oct.2015 Technica Motorsports Phone678)-965-5577 Info@Technicamotorsports.com Last edited by Taynice87; 06-23-2016 at 12:46 PM.. |

With all due respect Taynice, neither is correct; I spoke to Boris at Solo and had no idea to what I was taking about and was very quick to pass the phone to Josh (main flash tune guy at Solo). Josh was very candid indicating Solo has no Flash Tune Tool and nothing can be done. I was the launch customer for the N63 tune from Technica (my car is displayed under the N63 tune advertisement website) and Bret Bazan owner of Technica is not able to reflash my MSD85 ECU after the BMW customer care package update. Money down the drain, in summary, blah blah blah.
Good luck for now Last edited by 747flyboy; 06-14-2016 at 11:05 AM.. |
