Personally, I feel like I made a huge mistake with the 550. I love the car but wish I had just done the m5.
I went with the 550 to keep a lower profile as I'm currently building a house and for a couple other reasons. I got the mod bug way worse than I intended to and it feels kind of dumb modding a car that isn't the best. i planned on doing wheels and maybe dinan stage 2, then i found this forum... and it was all over. I personally am not a believer in trying to "catch up" with a higher model but that is exactly what I'm ending up doing. That being said, I do love my 550 and I will enjoy it until I get my M5 when the next model comes out in 5 years or so. If the money isn't a big deal I'd go m5. If your looking at resale and your car as an investment, you've picked the wrong brand.

I've enjoyed so much having AWD in the snow this winter that I'm confident I made the right choice going with the 550 over the M5 on my recent order.
If I ever buy an M car, it will be for summer only. So it probably won't be the M5 but something more sporty like the M6 (or M2 if it ever comes to market). If not an M, probably a P car. -Corey |

1. Ignoring the fact you could probably special order any BMW leather in any BMW car, the leather differences are really only color differences, not quality differences. You can't get Venetian Beige in the M5. You can't get Sakhir Orange in the 550. But all of the best leathers, the individuals, those colors are exactly the same for both. 2. You can't get ceramic controls in the M5. This is strictly a luxury/quality item, not a color item. So really, if you configured the very best interior you could for each car, the 550 would be slightly more luxurious because of the ceramic controls. -Corey |

One guy on here said the 550 was a piece of crap and get the M5. Dont know what the hell he was thinking. Well maybe his 550 was crap, but mine was badazz and I got nothing but compliments. I had the e60 550 and it no only handled great, looked great but had awesome power. Now, the power is not the M5, but none the less, the 550 is a good car. All you have to do is fork over the money to get what you want. Doesn't matter what we think you should buy, get what your wallet and lifestyle will afford you. Provided is a pic of my old 08 550.
