As long as you stay within 1% TOTAL diameter of front and rear, you'll be fine. I'm running 255/35/20 F and 295/30/20 with no issues.

I am on 351 with Xdrive, thinking doing the 245/45/19 with 275/40/19 in the back or 245/45/19 square but it looks very funny with the OEM suspension, you need a drop. I am currently with a 245/40/19 square setup and the car feel bumpy, feel every pot hole... can't win. Last edited by T-Bone18; 03-31-2021 at 10:28 PM.. |

Allright guys, I just install my new Michelin AS3+ and they feel amazing compare to my old Pirelli runflat tire. The car feel is on a cloud, it's more quiet, amazing grip and very good cornering. I went with a square setup as my BMW 351 wheels are 8.5" front and back.

hi, i am confused a little what are the dimensions of both the wheels and tire in the both pics ? are they the same ?
cause i am about to finally change the horrible stock 18" with runflat tires by tomorrow and i am swinging between a 245/45 r19 or a 255/40. i am also swinging between a staggered setup in which i might go for 285/35 or 275/40 rear. wheel options are either a 8.5j ET 33 all round or f:8.5j ET 33 / B:9j ET44 and i am worried about buyers remorse |

You are doing the right thing by getting rid of the run-flat tires. They do make the ride much harsher.
For your 8.5" ET 33 (sounds like the 351M wheels), 245/40/19 is the stock setup and you will not have any issues with fitment if you do that. For your proposed staggered setup, the wheels also look like standard BMW staggered wheel sizes so no problems there. Standard tire fitment for those wheel sizes are 245/40/19 in front, and 275/35/19 in the back. The other sizes you propose are not standard. You could go 245/45/19 all around on your 8.5" ET33 wheels, and I've done something similar without any rubbing (I went with winter 245/50/18 tires which are nearly identical in size to 245/45/19). These will not rub with your proposed wheels. For the staggered setup, you could also go with 275/40/19 tires to match your 245/45/19 front tires, and this should be OK. You probably should not go as wide as 285 since your rear wheels are only 9" wide, and putting a 285 tire on a 9" wheel might look a little 'ballooned'.

I have my 19'' 245/45 wheels on the back, on an F11, it seems the back is a bit low (for me) and if I go over potholes, sometimes I hear a knocking sound from the back-left. So could someone give me the measurments for those weels from the middle of the tire to the upper metal arch ? (in the middle). I want to see if I have some issues with the air springs ... (hope not though).

f: 245/45 r19 8.5j ET33. r: 275/40 r19 9j ET44. i did an alignment and went for 32psi front and 37psi back. i went for a drive and exceeded 130mph and the car felt like it's on a train track on the straight and over rough roads it felt much smoother as it if i went for 17". yet there is an increase in body role while cornering especially in the front, i am wondering whether my current tire pressure has an effect or if front is too narrow ? |

I think your tire pressures might be a little low, leading to more leaning into corners. My car says it should be 35psi for the fronts and 39psi for the rears, for 19" wheels / tires. Give that a try and see if it helps. Cheers!

for my current setup (especially for the higher tire sidewall i went with) i found 30psi to 32psi range all round to be the best. the tire treads are in full contact with the ground maximizing the contact patch. the car feels nimble in the front with much decreased body roll and the back is really grippy now almost feeling immovable ( which really suits my driving style for the back to anchor the car). i could feel sharp road imperfections a little more with lower psi yet it's much much better than the horrid 18" runflats. i will wear them in for few days then if i have any updates i will keep you posted. Honestly, I doubt that would be an issue, I have a set of original M5 rims on my F10 535i which I got for a steal and run 255/35/20 on the fronts and 285/30/20 on the rears with no rubbing or issues with my FTM. Albeit with a little more camber on the rear.

I use Michelin X-Ice Snow, the newer one that just came out. They're pretty good, slightly better than the Xi3 I used before on other cars which always worked well.
I was torn between the Michelin and the Nokian Hakka R3, but I notice now Nokian has a new Snowproof tire out. Might be worth a look, but I don't see any reviews yet. |
