Kinda pissed off about this. My car was out of warranty back in November. I had to get my fuel injectors all replaced on my dime, nearly $6000. I complained to BMW NA and they cut me a check for just $4500. WTF. Going to see if at least now they will refund me the last $1500.
So many people complained to them about the fuel injectors, I filed a BBB complaint and was about to start a lawsuit as well but $4500 was more than nothing for no effort on my part.

Filed a BBB complaint to get the remaining $1500+ refunded back to me. Going to take my car in for the timing chain and so on ASAP and hopefully I get a good loaner. Going to miss this 550i, I am moving on up to an M5 soon.

The Timing chain test is performed by the dealer diagnosis system, so no taking the engine apart.
But should one of the 2 chains fail the test, the engine needs to be removed from the car to replace the chains, hence why it can take many days. The "care package" does not require the removal of the engine from the car. Timing chain replaced cars will also get a oil change. All cars will be programmed for 12 month/10,000 Mile oil change interval.

Mine goes in Tuesday. I started looking at C63s over the weekend... this all has me worried about the long term of this car.

yea I spoke to my SA yesterday he told me to take my time, that they were also not scheduling any more recalls for the mean time because they still haven't received all the parts if needed to change. And honestly Im in no hurry, cars is doing decent, whenever he has the time and can guarantee my car wont be in for more than a week Im cool with it. He says if I were to bring it in now it could be there for a whilee.

Its not a recall, so cars dont have to go in immediately.
Dealers will schedule with their customers as they get the "care pack" parts in stock. Something like 84,000 cars are affected, so expect delays as dealers can only do a few at a time.

My car will be ready this evening, but when they did the inspection earlier in the week they found that my turbo cooling hoses were leaking and recommended that I replace them, I asked how much and nearly fell out of my chair - almost $1,000! I begrudgingly told them to go ahead and do them. Fast forward to today I got a call from my SA and he told me that the price he quoted me was wrong, it should have been closer to $1600. But since he told me the almost $1000 figure, they'll honor that price. To me that's still pretty damn high to replace the 4 hoses and the related clamps and couplings. I guess they had to dismantle almost all the accessories in the engine compartment to get at them. But hey, if my car continues on without any hiccups for the next 100,000 miles I'll be happy. (fingers crossed)

They replaced a couple of vent pipes, gaskets, connecting lines, a hot film air mass thing, and set something for set oil filter elim., whatever that is.
I had my injectors and some other related components replaced in June, that were probably part of this campaign.

Hi from the XBimmers board. This thread is getting a lot more action than over on our site so I'll ask this here. For anyone who is familiar with all of these recalled components and the effect that replacing them will have, here's the million dollar question: will this campaign improve engine reliability? I love my X5 50i but it's had it's fair share of issues and, especially considering that BMW Seattle has a pretty terrible loaner fleet, I'm getting tired of taking it in.

The whole purpose of overpaying for Dinan is that you are to keep warranty and in good terms with BMW, so i wouldnt worry about it

So I just called the Dealer up here in Toronto Canada and they checked my VIN and said no outstanding recalls??
Maybe this is still new and hasn't bled down to all the dealerships yet? RRRR!!!! |

So I'm guessing information is not synchronized across all the systems. From all my previous experience, a good tech and SA will get you the latest info. |
