So basically attach the motif, pressure it, load up ISTA, go to the brake bleeding procedure, start - and just follow instructions on screen - clicking next continue as you go along? On the part 4, where you say open all four in sequence, do you not close the valve before going to the next one? or they all left open at this point? |

Can someone explain how you connect ISTA to an F10? Do you use a DCAN cable, an ENET cable or the ICOM device thing? I really cant figure this out and I have been all over the internet trying to get my car to connect to this damn software..

ENET. ICOM is really only used for programming the car.

Some of the specialty BMW shops around my area don't even do the full ISTA process. Has anyone not done that that and still have successful results?

I changed the fluid in the F10 last Summer just using a Motive pressure Bleeder and did one corner at a time just like in the good old days.
The only exciting part of the job was the fear that I might let the fluid level drop too low in the master cylinder in which case I might need dealership help. The brakes were fine before and after I changed the fluid.

I just had a Brake Fluid service performed at Carbahn Autoworks (Steve Dinan's new shop in the Bay Area). I paid $167.00 out the door with no coupons, discounts or referrals.

Do you guys bleed the brakes with the parking brake on or off? Does it even matter?

Although on my 911 I accidentally got air in it. Pedal fell to the floor. Had to do the ABS bleeding using a Foxwell. Back to new. |

I took my calipers off to paint them, so right now I have the squish pedal problem even after 2 ISTA bleeds. Probably just need to bleed it one more time. Sigh.

Yeah took me two ABS bleeds. It took a while, I noticed the pedal getting firmer as I was going on/off the brakes during the bleed. I had to use the wet process (filling up my bleeder), because each side was pumping out a massive amount. 400-500ml.

I just realized I was bleeding my brakes kind of wrong. My first time really bleeding them, so learning curve! I was closing the bleeder (with the brake held down to prevent sucking back old fluid) as soon as the 90s timer in ISTA ran down. Turns out, the last line says something along the lines of "close bleeder after fluid is bubble free". I realized that it probably meant to keep pumping the brakes every 5 second until it runs free of air after the 90s timer. I noticed that even after the timer and all the DSC pump action, it was still pumping out a ton of air afterwards, probably took another 60s of pumping to fully clear it out. Now, my pedal is rock solid.

Hey guys, sorry to bump a slightly older thread.
Just finished changing out pads/rotors on my ‘16 F10. My buddy and I bled the brakes twice (old way) and there’s no pressure in the brake pedal. To stop the car, driving around the neighborhood the pedal is almost to the floor. We bled them twice, bc we hoped the 1st time this happened when driving around, we’d accidentally got some air in the lines. I’ve never heard of this ISTA thing before. Could that be why I have no pressure? Please let me know!! Right now my cars stuck at my buddy’s, 25 min down the hwy, bc it’s not safe to drive. |

So you’re suggesting that the engine must be running, while bleeding all air bubbles out? |

Yup. The ABS pump needs to be "energized" to get out the air when manually bleeding.

Only if you're bleeding the ABS unit due to introducing air. If you're doing a routine brake bleed, there's no need to do that.

We're thinking that there could have been air introduced into the ABS unit.
So just to clarify, y'all are saying to turn the car on (engine running) and re-bleed all 4 calipers?
