New oil filter and oil filter cover (BMW, not aftermarket) should arrive tomorrow, as should the breather hose. I'll at minimum get the oil filter cover installed this week. Not expecting this to change anything.
Just ordered the belt kit from FCP Euro. As long as I'm in there, and at 98k miles, seems silly to not replace the tensioner and idler pulleys as well. Don't have an estimated delivery date yet but I'm guessing early next week. Current plan is that if neither of these fix the noise then I'm bringing it back to the shop. I have a month and a half left on the warranty at this point so it's worth trying that route. |

RESOLVED
Update, it’s fixed!
Replaced the belt, tensioner and pulleys and the noise is completely gone. The belt surface looked okay but it did have a few gouges on one edge so it’s good this was replaced. I think the culprit was the bearings. All three pulley bearings had some play in them. Always nice when it’s a simple and inexpensive solution. Thanks all for your help and suggestions. |
