Reading all of these comments make me want to lean a lot toward the loaded 535i and never look back. Only the tail pipes of the 550i is making my head slightly turned right now. I just love the tail pipes of the 550i. It looks like a cool stealth fighter from the back.

Loaded 535i - Great power & torque, balanced handling, BMW's Inline 6, better wheels with ZSP, better exhaust tips IMO.

I'm in the minority here but a lightly optioned car is a turn off for me (yes I know the 550 comes with more standard options). Get the 535 and go to town on the amenities!

I agree. In the real world, the one that we live in, not the Clarkson Top Gear World, where we get to go on race tracks, the 535i, is more power than any human needs. You're gonna get more use out of the auto close trunk, and comfort access, then .7 seconds faster to 60mph. If it's a concern, then an M5, or Porsche is in your cards.

You can't go wrong with either car (535i or 550i). Those wells are available thru your BMW dealer. The tires and wheels (you have to get 20 inch tires instead of the 19 inch ones that come with the sport package) are not cheap-about $4500 total (4 tires and wheels). I'd probably get the 535i with sport package-I like the 19 inch wheels that come with the 535i better than the ones on the 550i. You'll get a more comfortable ride with the 19 inch wheels also-the ride can be rough with the 20 inch wheels even in the "comfort" mode with the dynamic handling package. This was a 550 that my local dealer put 20 inch wheels on that I test drove. It does look cool though! |

BMW-GT, Gatoman39, Tim-Alt,
You guys are right. The main reason that I even consider the 550i is the tail pipe, the greater horsepower, and of course....bragging rights. But if I use my head and not my hormones, than the 535i would be the better choice. Gainning a little in acceleration like Gatoman39 mentioned is not worth it. With $10,000 I can have more goodies. I just have to keep reminding myself that this will be my wife's car and not mine. I just called the San Diego dealership and they still don't have the cars yet. They said that they will receive the shipment of the new 5 series tomorrow and there is some type of special even tomorrow that I can come to test drive. Too bad I will be busy for the next few days. Oh, I just saw a new black 2011 F10 535i at the medical facility in Chula Vista where I was working a few offices down from it. It was beautiful. Some lucky doctor got it before I did.
