The E60 M5 came out as a 2005 model (in Europe) (2006 for North America). In 2008, the facelift model came out and was sold until 2010. So....here we are we with the F10 M5... The F10 M5 came out as a 2012 model (in Europe & Canada) (2013 for the United States). So if a facelift model comes as a 2014 model, it actually makes sense!

As for regular 5 series production.... E60 5 series came out in 2004. Facelift came as a 2008. F10 5 series came out in 2011. Facelift comes as a 2014. Based on this... It is coming a year sooner then the previous E60!

Are you talking about Model year? I got my first F10 in September 2010 as a July production, and I think the first batch of F10 production is earlier, something like May2010?

I hope they improve the steering feel with software update.
I doubt it though BMW is going down with each new version. It's just another luxury brand. I missed the E46/E39 era. |

As far as the F10 M5 being 'morally' old after it's first yr, trust me, I am no stranger to such. I had a 2000 E39 M5, which was the first yr the E39 M5 was sold in the US (it did sell as a 1999 in other continents). In 9 months it got awfully old, largely due to the 01 MY having: 1. Angel eye design (a first for BMW at the time) 2. Rear CELIS tail lights 3. Navigation screen went from a 4x3 to a 16x9 4. Steering wheel was significantly updated 5. Front PDC became available 6. M-Audio option became available I had a feeling the F10 M5 would be coming a year earlier (one reason is the F07 5-series GT came out a yr earlier than the F10 and would have been 'weird' to update the GT which is essentially a 5-series, and not carry it over to the rest of the lineup). I am glad my patience will be rewarded, as I am really looking frwd to a ED Aug of next yr for the M5 which now seems will be the LCI model. Not sure I would've been able to hold for 2 full yrs had the LCI followed the usual 4 yr pattern

Maybe the M5 guys might be a little upset about the "early" facelift. But I got my F10 535i in May 2010. Since then the internal Nav system has gone through *two* major updates and a third major update is already set to be released shortly. Plus plenty of new options have become available on the F10 that weren't there on launch. BMW goes through updates quickly. Another reason I lease my BMWs... whatever you buy will go through changes by the next model year. Maybe even sooner.

As the rivals became stronger with their models the updates are faster than before!
That doesn't mean that an earlier model is not good enough to be driven as it has all the options that pleased the customer when it was bought |

THANK YOU Jason.
Exciting change... here's hoping they bring pack the non M sport pack or just upgrade the seats, wheels and steering wheel. Honestly its the only issue the 5 series really has. Hope they keep the nice look of the front bumper though. I loved the original 2011. Almost a masterpiece if you ask me. |

If you don't like the M Sport Package, then don't order it? I don't understand what you mean here!

Your first F10 in September 2010 was a 2011 model right? It obviously was not a 2010 model. 2010 was still the E60 model. First production date of the F10 would be June or July 2010 (as a 2011 model).

Just cancelled my delivery for 2013 model... I think I can hold on for another tough 0.5 yr without the car in return of the LCI

While the LCI does seem early, it is warranted. too much competition now with the new A6 winning most of the comparos and the new GS getting pretty solid reviews. If only the f10 could drop 200# with an LCI (which it can't), that would be a winner....
anyways, I really like the integrated line between the top of the headlight and the kidney. I think the front-end styling is pretty bland on the current F10, so this will sharpen things up quite a bit. The rest of the car looks great as usual. Wonder what engine updates will be there and hopefully, they'll sharpen the steering and handling. New n55 would be awesome.

I wonder what they are going to do with the tailights. From the spy pics the shape looks the same and i don't see any difference from the current lights which imo is the best design feature of the car.
