528 with non sport transmission here. I have the same problem regarless of temperature. Happens when going slow in traffic (when release and press the gas pedal again). Jerks like a manual tranny when clutch is let go before completely engaging. It can be overcome by feathering the gas pedal or let the idle speed move the car in stop and go... and I got pretty good at it.
I'll take it to the dealer here when there is a concrete fix/bulletin on this issue. The dealer will give me a dirty look at this stage of problem. Only one dealer here. |

ilsb - Did you go to New Country yet? I am not at the point of being overly concerned, but have noticed that from a standstill it is hard to decide if I am able to smoothly pull away or need to punch it to get going...
Let me know your results... |

The throttle response was odd too. If you start out from a stop, you really have to very gently apply pressure to start out smooth. If you press a little harder when at a stop, it seems to stall, but then suddenly kicks in after a second or two. I noticed this even in 20-30 mph traffic. - when you are lightly braking or coasting, and attempt to throttle up to keep up with traffic, it seems to just do nothing for a second or two and then just grabs you by surprise. |

Some of this should be normal behavior I think. The torque converter locks up in every gear, usually the only locked in the top gear and in my E39 it doesn’t lock at all. This is one of the things they had to do for the environment think. The result is that the automatic has same or lower fuel consumption than the manual.
So if you’re rolling with a big turbo engine running just over idling speed and gear is locked in first a lot of things needs to happen if you hit the throttle too hard before it gets in its normal operating range. On earlier automatic the torque converter would let the engine run up to speed before all power is transferred to the wheel and that way "swallow" any jerks. On a manual you could typically achieve the same by applying the clutch a bit until you get the engine above 1500rpm. On this automatic we would need to be more gentle on the throttle I guess, or we could rely on the active cruise control. |

I see that this "problem" is widespread... I had a similar problem with a MB CLS500 when it was new like the F10. Resetting the computer for the adaptive drive helped until it came back after about a few weeks. Maybe the adaptive drive didn't "adapt" to me very well. They did make a physical adjustment to the tranny and everything was normal after that. Although it felt like the tranny was slipping ever since then.
Anyways, maybe this is the case with our cars. A software update probably can fix all this. Maybe delay the the torque converter lockup a bit. Any concrete updates? |

Took it to Gingras in WS. They reprogrammed to latest software and problem is almost totally gone. Much better than it was. Still a tad of problem when going down hill slowly it jerks when downshifting from second to first. |

No problems here, driving it in heavy traffic jams etc and also using the 'AUTO H' function in that case.
F10 535i Sportsautomatic, delivered june 8th 2010, 4800 miles on it. I always feather the throttle, but as I see it's a 'real '(software)issue now? Cheers Robin |

Still have problem after dealer reprogramming. It is much better after reprogram but not right. still lots of hesitation and jerkiness 0-20 or 20-0. Hard to start smoothly from dead stop and you can feel a transmission retarding when stopping. Not right. and I don't accept dealers "that is normal". Had a 2008 that was perfect...none of these issues. Pramit had same reprogramming and mechatronics replaced and reported that problem is gone. I am going back to dealer to have them fix it same way. This is annoying and seems to be a widespread problem.

I'm taking my car in for repair tomorrow morning, and I'll let you know what they say! Last week, I was backing up in a parking lot and the engine lurched and accelerated and my foot wasn't even on the gas pedal! My foot was on the brake and I couldn't believe it did that. Almost hit the car behind me.... Textbook uncontrolled acceleration. I'll keep you posted!!

My car is garaged at home and work, but the 90+ degree hasn't helped things (other folks posted that the car jerks "when it's cold"). My car jerks upon start AND stop from 0-10MPH. Even as the car is stopped, it feels like someone is pulsing the brakes.

My new car had this problem ,a new F10 with a 535 petrol engine, and automatic sport gearbox, it is an early sign that the gearbox is starting to go wrong, it eventually failed, and the replacement box cured this problem, |

The more and more I drive this car the more I'm convinced that the jerk is caused by the jerk driving it. I have 3 cars in the family.
One is 15 years old and uses the old cable system. Another is 2 years old and also uses drive by wire. ZF 6 speed The one I drive is drive by wire 8 speed ZF. The cable system doesn't respond to stabbing motions of the gas pedal and takes more travel to respond. The 2 year old car is much more sensitive to gas pedal inputs. The BMW is even more sensitive. I tried driving with flip flops yesterday and was able to feather the pedal and get the car to smoothly accelerate. I think it just takes a little getting used to. Some of you may have legitimate problems; But, I think I am good. |

This problem is really spoiling the experience. The car has become so annoying, and this is after I took it back to the dealer. Obviously, they've done nothing. They've just reset the gearbox programming as I've understood. The car is stuttering almost all the time. The gear shifting is rough and hesitant. I really have to feather the accelerater to avoid this "punishment". Otherwise, I'd get a kick in the behind.
I'm going to the dealer again tomorrow. P.S.: I can't PM People on this forum because I'm new, but I hope PRAMIT sees this post, because I'd like him to describe for me what he was experiencing exactly so I can complain with solid grounds. Thanks. |

Just picked up our new 528 yesterday and both the wife and myself thought what the heck is going on at starting and stoping speeds with the jerking....? At least now I know that it's not us.
Thanks guys,

I went today to the dealer, and surprise, surprise, he said that this is normal!!!!! What the!!! I can't believe that a car like BMW drives like this. This is really irritating.
The workshop manager told me to wait and see. If it gets worse then they will take action. It's funny, I guess he wants me to wait until the warranty runs out so then he could charge me!!! |

Got my 535i this summer and it has this issue. Not always but when it does it's between 0-10. Almost like the gears are shifting twice and the car can't decide if it wants to move up. May take to dealer soon. And it does have a rough idle at stoplights when it has the lurching issue.
