You need the EU spec 550i/550d caliper carrier with partnr. 34 11 6 786 829 for 374x36 rotors. The correct one is marked with 929! |

I almost sold all the parts away....i thought i have EU spec as I bought this calipers on E bay from United Kingdom.... Looks like he had lower spec 550i the only issue now is that new carriers cost 200USD per side ...but will proceed anyway.

Maybe only special in the UK since those cars are right-hand drive. Hopes everything works out for you with the 550 brakes! |

In my never ending research on this topic, I've become concerned about a point that doesn't seem to be brought up much when doing brake upgrades- WEIGHT! My stock 530d front rotors are 10.6kg each. The X6M rotors are 17.2kg each! On the rear, the 550i rotors are 8.7kg, compared to 7.3kg for my stock ones, which seems like a more reasonable weight increase.
My 530d already has uninspiring acceleration, so I'm slightly concerned that adding 15.4kg of unsprung, rotational weight is going to kill acceleration even more. Can anyone comment on this from experience? At 16kg each, upgrading to the F85/86 M front rotors, which are 2-piece cross-drilled, only saves 1.2kg from the E70/71 M rotors. |

You are correct, weight is definitely a concern here. Unsprung weight affects both handling and acceleration.
My upgrade from 348x36mm rotors (12.3kg) to 374x36mm (13.8kg) added 1.5kg per side since the same calipers was used. For me it was worth the added weight. |

As of unsprung weight if I don't feel it on my 520d you will not feel it on 530d for sure |

You added about 3kg per wheel up front, whereas I'd be adding twice that. I may not feel the difference at all, but it's something I seriously have to consider before pulling the trigger on this mod. |

. . . so I'm still looking into brake mods for my 530d.
One thing that I hadn’t researched much up to this point was tangible evidence of the actual improvement these brake mods make, so I started looking into braking distances. The 550i has the larger front and rear rotors that would be an easy upgrade for my 530d, so I pulled up 550i braking distances. As I can’t get figures on an F10 with X5M calipers, I figured the M5 would be a decent comparator to judge what slapping on some Brembo multi-piston calipers would do. Here’s what I’ve found for 60-0mph braking distances: 530d- 118ft (http://www.zeperfs.com/en/fiche4317-bmw-530-d.htm) 550i- 116ft (MotorTrend) M5- 110ft (MotorTrend) M5- 113ft (http://www.zeperfs.com/en/fiche3969-bmw-m5.htm) The short story is that there isn’t nearly as much difference as I’d expected. I appreciate that these braking numbers will have been done at different outside temperatures, on different track surfaces, with different tires, etc. Nonetheless, I really expected the M5 to stop a LOT quicker than the numbers I’m finding. Given that the mod I’m looking at would put 550i calipers/rotors on the rear and 4-piston X5M calipers/rotors on the front, I’d expect to see an improvement somewhere between the 550i and M5 numbers. After seeing these numbers, I’m having a hard time justifying spending $1,200-1,500 on this brake upgrade just to shorten my stopping distance by a couple feet. Moreover, the X5M upgrade will add 7kg per front wheel to my car (and 2-3kg per rear wheel), so I’ll have to sacrifice some acceleration. Other than the obvious cosmetic improvement, I just can’t see why this would be a valuable upgrade to my 530d. I could put a full set of KW coilovers on the car for this kind of money, which would be a much more noticeable improvement! I’m happy for dissenting opinions, as deep down, I totally want to do the X5M brake conversion . . . |

Those rotors are for Eu spec F10/F11 550i/M550d, 374x36.
Those rotors are for F07 (5 series GT) and F01 (7 Series), while the rotors still has 374mm outer diameter, the diameter of the aluminium hat is decreased to make room for brake pads with larger surface area. I.e. which rotors you should have depends on which calipers you have/plan to use. |

Hey all - I have a 2011 535i (US) with oem 19" rims. At the start of the thread I was thinking no problem, but after reading all 4 pages, I thought I better post.
Assuming I have to change rotors, pads, calipers, and caliper carriers - whats the cheapest way to get the non-maintenance parts? Ill obviously get new rotors and pads, but am I looking for used EU 550i or F01 760 caliper components? Anything I am missing? Is there also an upgrade path for the rear brake setup as well? |

Power Stop Kit installed
Finally got around to painting the calipers and installing the Power Stop kit, $470 on Amazon. They feel great as they did on my Lexus. Took about 8 hours in all, took off the rotor and pads, used cardboard to spray paint, then use a brush to touch up when done.

So if Im understanding this correctly I can run 374x36 rotors with same calipers I just need new caliper carriers? And if so can you tell me what year make and model Caliper carriers I need. I know you stated in earlier post but just wanting to make sure. Looking to run 374x36 BMW Drilled rotors part number 34112282805 and 806 on my 2015 535i.

You would need a US 550i or a EU spec 535i/d to have 348x36 rotors and the same calipers that is used for 374x36 rotors (30/36 is rotor thickness). All details and part numbers in my post on the first page in this thread: f10.5post.com |
