Great Thread and very useful. I am going with what is being recommenced by .BMW. and Addy27, BUT what most people doing for the rear brakes upgrade? the 535D rear brakes are not all that good to begin with and I generally like to have a balanced braking front to rear. If front caliper biting force is increasing so should the back.
I do understand that the front brakes do most of the work but I like balanced approach. Original Posts: Looks great, complements the Alpina wheels! So these are the front brakes from F01 760i/Alpina B7? The rotors are 374x36, the same diameter as the Euro spec 550i/M550d brakes I used, but the size of the hat is reduced to allow calipers with larger brake pads. I also noticed that the caliper carrier is the same as on my setup. I add all part numbers on the same way as in my post on the first page in this thread for future readers: F01 7 Series 760i and Alpina B7 2-piece directional 374x36 rotors. L: partnr. 34 11 6 789 543 R: partnr. 34 11 6 789 544 Caliper housing. L: partnr. 34 11 6 786 827 R: partnr. 34 11 6 786 828 Caliper carrier. Partnr. 34 11 6 786 829 Brake pads. Partnr. 34 11 6 794 464 Correct me if I'm wrong addy27. |

M5 brakes
So I recently purchased some stupid cheap M5 front calipers and unknown rear calipers.
Question 1. I have the 550i Msport brakes currently. Do I have to use the M5 rotor with these calipers? What are my other rotor options? Question 2. Do I need to get an adapter? It looks like there is one on the brakes already. The mounting hole center to center measurement match the stock calipers, however I don't know if the depth is the same. Question 3. Anyone know what the rear brakes are? I would like to use them, I know I will need an adapter. |

Stock M5 won't fit directly onto your 550i. The holes for the screws are at different locations. You'll need an adapter. Also yes, you will need new rotors to go with them.
not sure about the rear brakes.. BTW, are you sure those are M5 and not M3/M4? |

I actually think they are for an X5M. Those look like X5M brackets. I think the rears might be a newer X M series brake. But for the price, I could not pass them up. I know there are brackets on Ebay for like $300. Not sure about the rears, but I don't wonder if the M5 bracket might work.

Just picked up my 550i from the dealer and they had a X5M in the showroom with the blue calipers like that but the rear did not have the ///M label. Last edited by Luky; 02-17-2019 at 05:05 PM.. |

Keep in mind that while stopping distances may not improve significantly, fade resistance under high speed, high temperature braking circumstances will be drastically better and that's where you'll see the real improvements in larger rotors and better pads.

So what did you use for the brake pads for 34 11 6 794 464? OEM? I see Jurid at Bavauto and Pagid at eEuroparts for about $130. Are these any good? They don't seem to make akebono ceramic pads for this front fitment.

Does anybody know if the F02 760i/Alpina calipers will bolt up to the 550i with the 374x36 rotors?
I bought a set of used calipers from ebay just to get the carriers to add to my 550i calipers (was less than one carrier new), but now I am thinking of having the 760i calipers powder coated black and rebuilding them, then just swap out with my stock 817/818 calipers when I install the 374x36 rotors. The Calipers I bought are PN 34116786827 left side and PN 34116786828 right side. Can I still use the 550i pad wear sensor with the new bigger pads? Or do I also need the 760i wear sensors? Brake lines should just bolt up? I am thinking maybe SS brake lines while I'm in there. I already bought the solid Bronze bushing/pin kit from ECS to install on the calipers too. |

Did the calipers on Alpina B7s come painted like this from the factory? I know that newer B7s come with painted calipers, but they also have 4-piston calipers from what I can tell. However, I can't find any pics of F01 B7s that have painted Alpina calipers.

I pulled one of my calipers over the weekend and confirmed the 760i calipers are the same and bolt onto the 550i with the "taller" caliper carriers for the larger rotors. However I got a deal on a Stoptech BBK for my 550i and will be installing that instead. So I have the 760i calipers/carriers and the larger brake pads (new BMW OEM pads) to go with for sale if someone else wants to do this "upgrade". $350 + actuall shipping costs (~50lbs for the calipers and pads). They will need to be cleaned up (maybe painted), maybe replace seals, guide pins, rubber bushings (was my plan). You will also need the larger rotors. The larger 374x36mm 2 piece ATE (OEM) rotors were listed at $177 each from FCP Euro. This think would be a good upgrade for a 535i/550i and a lot less than a BBK. Probably can do the whole upgrade for under $800 and some elbow grease. Last edited by Luky; 04-03-2019 at 12:55 PM.. |

Got mine done today with some help from DARKKN1GHT. I love it. So far no real difference in stopping range, I don't know maybe I need to break them in. Still trying to figure out what route I'm going to take with the rear setup because right now the oem 535i brakes looks too small compared to the fronts.

I know that you can get cross-drilled 550i rear rotors (at least in the UK), so that will help match the look of the fronts, even if the rotors are still not as big as you'd like: https://www.buycarparts.co.uk/zimmermann/7517745 Otherwise, you could do an aftermarket BBK for the rear, but then you're getting into some big money as well. |

So, will I need to do any modifications to put the front/rear calipers and rotors from an E60 M5 on my 2011 535i? In not sure if I'm confusing myself by reading too much into it. I found a good deal on E60 M5 brake setup (front and rear), but don't want to buy if I can't use them.
Or would the better option be to replace them with the F01 front calipers/rotors and rear F10 550i calipers/rotors? If so, which 550i? U.S. spec of EU spec? |

Regarding E60 M5 rears, that hasn't been discussed on this thread to my knowledge, so I really have no idea. It appears the E60 M5 has a single piston rear caliper, but it has a much larger rotor, at 370x24. So I have zero help but the same questions! Hopefully someone will chime in with answers, but I may do some digging on this to see if I can find more info about this brake conversion. |

I just did some searching on RealOEM and noticed that the E60 M5 rear calipers don't have an integrated parking brake, like the stock F10s do. I believe this issue is what prevents us from using F01 rear calipers, so I assume E60 M5s won't work either unless you can find a different solution for the parking brake.
