Before I got my valve stem seals replaced a little under a month ago, I could visually see be oil level drop on my dash, since then I have not seen it drop at all. When I first got my car back it stayed on that screen all day and every time I drove because I was so worried it would be the same result. I checked it using Carly (not sure how accurate that is but it seems legit) to see the exact percentage and I am at 98% after almost 1,500 miles. Fingers crossed but only time will tell, I will have not hit the 5k mark but I am optimistic because the car feels much much better then it ever has. It definitely does not feel like a brand new motor but it is night and day compared to what it was.

Oil consumption
Correct, thus far since having the valve guides done I have not had to add a quart of oil within the 5k interval I have chosen to do an oil change. I've changed my oil once thus far and didnt have to add a quart of oil once having added 9 quarts during my last oil service.

UPDATE: so took the car back again for oil consumption and smoke coming out from exhaust and keep in mind that i did tge engine replacement and still had issues. After some tests they decided to replace the valve stem seals and guides. They were surprised after i had the engine replacement that i still faced the same issues. Bmwna told the dealer to replace valve stem seals and guides. After the replacement they put new oil abd and told me to monitor the oil indicator. Just got the car back 4 days ago and put 650 miles and oil still full so i hope they solved the issue. Just last month i had to add 1 quart every 500 miles. So im keeping mynfigers crossed. The smoke coming out from exhaust while stop and go traffic and idling and decreased a bit now. So lets see how it goes. |

Replaced engine in 2014, still having drivetrain malfunction issues
I had multiple drivetrain malfunction issues with my 2014 550xi msport, which resulted in replacing all of the HPFI, which didn't solve the issue. The dealer ultimately dropped in a new engine, and we're still having the hesitation issues on heavy acceleration. Took it in again with the new engine and they told me there was water in the gas (seems a cop out...).
Has anyone had this persistent issue? Any clue of the solution? |

Took mine in for oil consumption test and supposedly passed so basically I don't qualify for anything. What I did notice is that my oil interval is now 8k which tells me they reprogrammed it. Located in Northern California 2011 with 85k.

Engine Replacement
2011 X5 N63 replacement 110,121. $9,241.37 total
Labor is $3,300/Material is $5,927 (engine is $4,151) BMW of NA would not waive the 121 miles over the 25% threshold. I had to pay 90%. Waited 9 weeks for engine. Took 7 days to install. Runs great so far. So why pay ~10K for a repair on a car you only paid 14K for???? Well the sticker was 84.6K in 2011 and all other aspects of the car are nearly showroom quality. So all the stuff that made it expensive then, makes it worth the funds now. Good luck to everyone with their own N63 story. (By the way...I have a 2012 X6 in evaluation program now also) We must all remember, to own and drive the ultimate driving machine isn't cheap |

Replacement done
I got the engine replacement in late April and it took about a week to get engine done. I was in the 60/40 range so I owe around 6K, i opted for all hoses replaced too so it came closer to around $6800 for me. The car has been running great since. No more low oil lights, after 4K miles. I took to non-dealer recently and had all fluids replaced since it's a new engine and the owner on site made a comment that the engine looked like it was installed perfectly by experienced technician. Anyway the engine and the ride feels great now so I'm hoping that extra 6.8K gets me 200K more miles.

Hi recently bought 09 x6 with n63, has 141k mi on it. It had cpo done in 2015 but still goes thru tons of oil. Called local dealer Century bmw of greenville sc and they said they cant help me since its over 130k mi. But if it had cpo done in 2015 shouldnt it be redone since repairs obviously failed? Any word?

Looks like my engine needs attention. 2 quarts burned in 1000 miles. Smokes after prolonged idling. 76,500 miles on 2012 N63. Cannot wait...not. Maybe I can get BMW to split the cost of the engine and I do the work...hmmm.

I bought a 2012 BMW 550I with 70k miles Aug 2019 through private sale. Had a top of the line warranty still on it. Once warranty was transferred to me, I took it to the local BMW dealer. By then I had noticed the high oil consumption and some smoking. Luckily for me the previous owner had meticulous service records. They submitted the case to the warranty and BMW. Car had to stay at the shop as a third party inspector was sent by warranty. Got a call the following week and told BMW is replacing the engine. No cost to me. All in all it took 20 days to get my car back and they provided a loaner the entire time. Based on others specific cases I am happy. I am concerned though as I did not have to pay a percentage nor my warranty deductible. The invoice says replaced engine assembly, bled fluid, cleared adaptations. In the parts it has a lot of gaskets, exhaust manifold, exchange short engine, 2 installation kits, and lots of other parts. Does this sound like an engine replacement or just work done on the engine? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Well OnlyGerman if you aren't going to help me with any answers then scoot on over for those who do want to help me. I asked as many questions as I could to my SA, and I got answers from him. What I am questioning is whether the job they SAID they did was done or not. Considering most on this thread had to pay some sort of percentage to get it fixed and I did not have to pay a dime. Which is why I am wondering if someone who knows about parts could give me their opinion. I wasnt going to fight it much once they told me engine would be replaced at 0 cost to me. So I dont care WHO paid it whether the warranty or BMW , I'm wondering what was done. Is that more clear ?
