I bought a 2012 550i with 56k miles in December. Back in March I cracked a rim and started calling dealerships for a price. Upon calling my preferred dealer is was greeted with the "you know these engines burn oil" line. I said yeah and started to dismiss it. The SA told me to bring the car in as it was due for another care package. After a week at the dealer I was informed that BMW wanted to replace the engine. Long story short, my engine was replaced and I didn't pay one red cent. I was shocked, but pleasantly surprised. All because I cracked a rim on a pothole.

Did the dealer say what they found to trigger an engine replace?

Just the valve seals alone are not enough to change engines. THere was something else, and it would be good for us to know. |

Just spun a crank bearing on my 2013 550i according to my local import mechanic. Car only has 65,000 miles on it and has been meticulously maintained. Was quoted 16K and 12K so far. Can buy a new reman from BMW for 4K but every repair shop wants to charge the MSRP $5100. 6-7K labor. I’m assuming this won’t be covered so I’m screwed. Just missed out on the recall?
