I enjoy films based on Jim Thompson's books. Like so many pulp noir writers in the mid-20th century, Thompson wasn't particularly successful as a writer during his lifetime. The material for his books came from his life experiences, and the scripts of the movies I've seen tend to hew very closely to the books.

The Killer Inside Me is considered Thompson's best book. The Grifters and the 1st of the two The Getaway movies are the best of the five movies based on his books that I've seen. If you haven't seen any of these, The Grifters is a good introduction to Jim Thompson's world.

Ones I've seen:

The Grifters
The Getaway (1st with McQueen & McGraw (better); 2nd with Alec Baldwin & Kim Basinger)
After Dark, My Sweet
The Killer Inside Me (1st with Keach and Tyrrell; 2nd with Casey Affleck and Kate Hudson – until just now, I didn't know the 2nd one existed)

Yet to see:

The Kill-Off
This World, Then the Fireworks
Série Noire (book title: A Hell of a Woman)
Hit Me (book title: A Swell-Looking Babe)
Coup de Torchon (book title: Pop. 1280)

its the greatest movie ever made because its everything... comedy, action, drama all mixed in a completely nonsensical fashion and it works gloriously

arnolds one liners are the best
the action is beyond absurd
the villains are literally game worthy

Plus it had an obscure car in it nobody knew, a Sunbeam Alpine, no idea what it was as a kid but oh wow it can keep up with a 911 LOLOL

uh no one has said Caddyshack, Smokey & Bandit, Cannonball Run.... before cut the cord would always watch when channel surfing.

Anything Bruce Lee is mandatory. Good thing about Netflix & Prime, since I have watched many BL movies it suggest other great kung fu movies. Grew up watching old kung fu movies on the weekends as a kid.

Thanks for sharing, I'll try to watch The Grifters this week. The poster looks familiar, but somehow I missed it..
