Oil filter housing gasket replacement

I have a 2014 BMY 535d with 106,000 miles. Recently a mechanic told me the OFHG needs to be replaced. Any idea of what the cost may be? Also, is it normal to see the gasket fails after 106,000 miles?

Don’t know about the cost, but I’m planning on doing mine this week. Original one just started weeping and I’ve got just over 160,000 miles. Surprised it has lasted so long.

I ended up replacing the OFHG, Oil Cooler gasket, bolts for both the above, the 6 intake manifold gaskets, and the upper radiator hose while I was there (the original became brittle and broke while I was maneuvering it out of the way).

I also replaced the belt, tensioner, and idler pulley since it had quite a few miles and the belt is know to fall apart and cause major issues if it gets brittle from oil soaking into it, which hs a tendency to happen due to the failing gaskets.

Also plan on doing an oil change afterwards and topping up the coolant.

Hope this helps! Check around for detailed instructions, I didn’t find it that difficult myself, just time consuming.

Intake manifold has to be removed for this job? Sheesh!

In order to replace the intake manifold gaskets, yes. I’m sure there are people that have done it by just lifting it just high enough and fighting around it and not replacing the gaskets, but I wanted to be sure to have a good seal afterwards by cleaning the surface and replacing the gaskets.

If you look at the rear bolt on the OFHG you’ll see the intake manifold is more or less directly on top of it unfortunately.

I was able to get a hold of a mechanic that done good work for me and some friends. He is going to over on Saturday to replace my OFHG. never discuss price up front, but he has always been fair! I'll reply here once it's all said and done...
