N55 PCV replacement
There have seen several articles concerning N55 PCV replacement using the Russian supplied PCV valve. All talk about cutting/sawing the old PCV valve from the valve cover. When this is done the dimensions for the PCV valve to valve cover are altered and the PCV system will not work as designed. The PVC system works on extremely low pressure differentials therefore is very sensitive to dimension changes. When the PCV valve is cut off, the valve sealing surface and spring working dimensions are changed.
This procedure can be easily done with the valve cover installed on the engine. Mine is off in the pictures as I already installed a new cover on my engine and was fixing my old one in the pictures shown below. The PCV valve needs to be removed so the mating surface's and dimensions are not altered. DO NOT CUT OFF THE OLD PCV VALVE. I have attempted to explain a way to do this below with a drawing and pictures. I am sorry that I did not take detail pictures of the whole process. The PCV valve is Ultrasonically welded to the valve cover around the rim of the PCV valve. If you cut an "X" in the top of the PCV valve, as shown in the drawing, without cutting into the rim of the Valve Cover you can remove the PCV valve with a heat gun, pliers and flat head screw driver. The PCV valve will come off cleanly, see pictures of rim and valve remnants. With this done, you need to clean the carbon off of the Rim in the valve cover and the hole in the middle that sends oil mist/gases into the the intake manifold; see picture. The top of that hole in the middle is the PCV valve sealing surface, the PCV valve will not work properly if that is not smooth and clean. I used carburetor cleaner and medium steel wool to clean this surface. To install the new PCV valve, only coat the outer Rim of the Valve cover with black Hi-Temperature Silicone adhesive, install the spring and push on the new PCV valve. If needed apply constant pressure so the PCV valve is not pushed up by the spring. I did not need to do this as the PCV valve was a light interference fit. Let dry for 24 hours before starting your engine. If the PCV valve ever goes bad again the next replacement will be very easy. Sorry about the order of the pictures.
