Intermittent Wiper Setting
Guys, having an odd issue with my wipers and need some confirmation about the usage of the wipers. Prior to getting my ecu replaced on my 2011 535i, I would push the wiper stalk up once, and was able to adjust the intermittent interval with the thumb stick on the stalk. Rain sensor was activated when pushing on the button at the end of stalk and I can adjust the sensitivity with the thumb Stick.
Now after getting the ecu replaced, when I push the stalk up once, I can’t adjust the interval no longer with the thumb stick. It’s constant fast speed, and pushing the stalk up again goes faster and another for faster. Rain sensor is working as intended by what I can see. I brought it to bmw, and they reinitialized the rain sensors but still the same issue. I’m thinking maybe the usage of the wiper has changed on the newer software? I’m kinda lost on next steps, and not sure if bmw knows how to proceed further. Can someone confirm on their vehicle if the pre ecu change usage of the wipers is same on your vehicle please. |

My 2013 f06 appears to work like yours AFTER the ECU change-over you had done.
If I push upward on the stalk...it will go into 1st (low continuous) speed...and if I come to a stop and brake...it will go into an intermittant wipe interval. If a push up twice or higher (past the resistance)...it goes into 2nd (high) speed. Then if a I come to a stop, then the wipers will go into the 1st (low continuous) speed mode. For automatic wiper initiation...I press the button on the tip of the stalk. If I need to increase or decrease the SENSITIVITY (not the interval)...then I use the scroll button on the stalk. If I press downward on the stalk...it will give one brief wipe. To turn off 1st speed wipe...I press downward (once) on the stalk. To turn off 2nd (high) speed...I press downward (twice) on the stalk.

I will have to go test, but I'm pretty sure that my F10 with rain sensor (and my departed E90 with rain sensor) do not have any manual "intermittent" mode. The button is rain sensor with adjustable sensitivity, and the first press up on the stock is just low speed "on" which changes behaviour based on road speed (going intermittent when stopped).

You guys are awesome! My guess is that the ecu has newer software which disabled the previous features. I do miss it a lot, but this will save my time going back to bmw to get it diagnosed. As they were not aware of this was intended or not.

I didn't even know you could adjust it like that... I just leave it on rain sensing and use the rain-x washer fluid all the time (don't need wipers much over 50mph as drops just roll off)...
