2015 F10 535i vibration 75+ mph

So I have been trying to diagnose a vibration. It occurs mostly between 70 and 80 mph, worst at around 75. I bought 4 new michelin tires, when I bought them, i was told both right side wheels were bent so i replaced them with brand new wheels. tires were all re balanced and roadforced. Road force numbers were 9, 11, 14, and 18 i believe. This is the strange part..... when its 65-70 degrees outside, the car has almost no vibration. When its 85-95 outside it shakes alot. Anny ideas? Car has 88k miles.

Maybe a weight came off but vibration at specific speed is usually a balancing issue. Assuming you don’t have spacers?

There are numerous threads on this subject - search for vibration. The issue appears to be very difficult to identify and resolve. My car suffers the same issue - vibration at about 72 to 75 MPH. I've decided to live with it and drive at 70 or 78 MPH.

no spacers, factory 351m wheels and factory size tires. It is possible that its thrown a weight but they have been rebalanced 3 times so far.

My issues doesnt go away above a certain speed, it just becomes less noticeable but still there otherwise i would do the same thing lol.

Flop the front and back tires. Any change in vibration pattern? If so, it's wheel or tire related.

Good luck.

Look at your front thrust arms and consider replacing. The bushings tend to go quickly and make the issue worse.

Also look for a highly recommended wheel shop to rebalance. I had to go to three different shops to eventually get my wheels balanced properly and eliminate my vibration issue.

I will inspect to see if they have any play in them. I have an appt at the dealership about this but they cant get to it until mid September sadly. My other local shops wont mess with changing parts because they said they cant align bmws.

I have a weird vibration that is most noticeable at 75-80MPH AND specifically in 8th gear where it manifests most, and specially on slight inclines.. almost a resonant/repeating vibration.. I've already gotten the wheels straightened, control arms swapped, balanced/rotated, and rear differential mounts replaced. Also had the transmission fluid changed but 0 affect thus far..

So I did some poking around. I jacked up the front of the car and cant seem to find any play in anything. What I did notice is that when I spin the wheel, I can visibly see the top of the tire moving up and down as it spins. I know that a little run out in a tire is normal but it seems excessive to me. I ordered one new tire and i am going to swap it out and see if anything improves. This particular tire had a road force of 39, I rad them spin it 180 degrees on the wheel and it went down from a 39 to an 18 (other tires were 9,11, & 14). I have a month to kill trying on my own before the dealership can look at it.

Solved a similar vibration in my 535i by replacing the engine mounts. The old ones weren't collapsed nor visibly damaged, but the car got much smoother at highway speeds.

This was after all new Lemförder arms, new 434M wheels, Michelin tires, etc.

Drives great now, even with a torn differential mount and some small cracks in the flexdiscs. Those are next on the list.

What brand tire? I chased my tail once convinced it was a balancing issue. Turned out tire was out of round from new, and worse even flat spotted when not used for a few days.

I've got a torn center differential mount. Do you know how it impacts driving? Thinking of when I should change it.

I had a few issues that lead to my higher speed vibration. One was an out of round wheel. New tension arms also helped, and the final improvement was new struts/springs. It now rides fairly smooth for a 9 yo car, though unfortunately not perfect.

Well I still have an appointment with the dealer on 9-14, hoping i can get it resolved before then. Update: I noticed the longer im on the road and the hotter it is outside, the worse it vibrates. i let the tires down to 29 psi and it rides smooth until ive been on the road a while and pressure gets back up to around 33 psi. Took that info to the tire shop and they agreed to replace all 4 tires at no cost (via the Michelin promise plan/ 60 day guarantee). Hopefully this will fix my issue, just waiting for the tires to come in now.
