Picked up my F11 520d!

I think I got my F11 520d in record time. I ordered it on 2nd October, and was given a projected delivery date of 30th November. I got a call from the dealer on Tuesday to say the car was ready to be collected on Saturday - 28 days later. After picking myself off the floor, I ran around like crazy to get everything arranged.

It's worth noting that the dealer already had a car on order for the showroom. In order to beat the UK VAT increase, they amended the showroom order to my own and in their words "accelerated it through production". I don't know what that means.

The spec is:

F11 520d
Imperial Blue Xirallic
Black High Gloss
18" V-Spoke style 328 wheels
Oyster / Black
Professional Sat Nav
Sport Automatic Transmission
Variable Damper Control
Comfort Access
Folding exterior mirrors
Ambient Lighting
DAB digital radio
Electric seat adjustment with memory
Heated Seats
Sun Protection Glass

Having driven all of 50 miles so far my initial impressions are that it's everything I expected. It's smooth and quiet to drive in town or on the motorway, and makes effortless progress. I was driving on some hilly roads in town at low speed and it made light work of them. I averaged 57 mpg on the motorway so I'm very pleased with that. The ride is excellent. I set the dampers to "comfort" on the motorway, and "normal" in town. The roads around where I live are far from smooth and it soaks up the bumps very well.

Some surprises:

1. The standard seats are surprisingly comfortable. More comfortable than my Mercedes seats that were adjustable in every possible way.
2. The standard audio is very good IMO. I was going to go for professional audio but decided against it because my wife and kids are usually in the car with me and they'd complain if I crank up the volume. The sound from DAB is particularly good.
3. The F11 comes with a soft close boot (trunk) as standard. I didn't know that, and it's nice because the boot is heavy.
4. There is no recess in the dash where the HUD would normally be as some people have mentioned. There's a speaker there instead.

Here are some pictures. Not the best, I'm afraid. The weather sucks at the moment.

Congrats! Nice car. 28 days is indeed a record, lucky man.

Congrats.

Have just ordered the same colour, same wheels, 525d SE. I was torn between the Sophisto grey and the blue. Think that the blue looks good despite the weather.

Thanks.

I'm very pleased with the imperial blue. I was also considering sophisto grey.

My F11 is to arrive tomorrow. Very different set of colours, but I have my private theory that the colour of your car and the name of your kid matters for the first week. Later everybody just gets used to it, and treats it like that was always like that. My criteria is really around: how does it look like when it's dirty, so I don't have to wash it every 3 days when the weather is like today...

Picked up my car with a similar spec yesterday and I love it. I don't miss my E61 525d Touring at all.

The new spec:

- F11 520d Touring
- Imperial blue
- Alu rails
- 18" 328 wheels
- Sports automatic
- Variable dampers
- Sports seats in black leather
- M sport steering wheel
- HiFi Professional
- Xenon
- PDC
- Extended ACC
- Retractable tow hitch

As many posters have written before, the steering feels a little bit filtered compared to the E60/61, but there are so many other things that compensates for that. It's a totally new car and for me, my first with an automatic transmission. Ended up in a traffic jam on the highway today and it was a breeze not having to use a clutch and change gears manually all the time.

Nice! We have a similar spec

What do you think of the performance and refinement of the car on the highway? I thought it was excellent. I normally set the dampers to "comfort" on the highway.

The car is really excellent on the highway. I did find the comfort mode a bit too wobbly for the higway. I think I'll mostly use it down town where we have lots of speed bumps and tram tracks.

It's snowing here today and I haven't put on the winter tyres yet so I had to be careful today.
