Aaaarrgggg! Screen needs cleaning
Ok, so there was this screen scratched thread (that was closed due to BS) and of course I started to notice my screen even more closely. So just yesterday, I noticed 2 tiny specs on my screen, which I think are 2 tiny droplets of saliva that may have shot out of my mouth during an exciting conference call taken from the car.
So there you have it, the screen needs to be cleaned! And now I am scared, I knew this day would come. I am going to clean it with a LCD wipe and report back. Wish me luck! Last edited by BigKutta; 05-02-2012 at 01:48 PM.. |

Good luck.
I read the other thread you talk about and personally don't have anything stuck on the nav screen (yet..) but I also read on another forum a guy even had fountain pen ink marks from a previous owner that wouldn't come off. Eventually he got the advice to use alcohol & it worked.. The coating on the panels is delicate to mechanical pressure/aggressive cleaning but the right tool/substance for the right job is the best option. Even Micro fiber cloth should not be used like scotch-brite on an old rice pot ;-) |

I have been using this stuff for all the plastic screens in my car, works great and more importantly, will not damage the screen.

steady hand pressure.
Think as you are the surgeon doing brain surgery. Do NOT go back & forth with the wipe. The key is to do ONE steady wipe. GL. You will need it. |

I wish I read up on the screen before I went at it, now I have fine scratch on them if the sun light hits it on a good angle...bmw should've used glass instead of whatever it is that they used. Now I do only 1 swipe with micro fiber and screen cleaners for PC monitors, since its anti-static I also have gotten less dust to settle on the screen.

Gauge Cluster Scratch
Hi, I am new to the forum but wanted to ask a quick question. I am looking at buying a 2013 550xi from the dealer that was driven by the owner for about 3500 miles. As I was about to purchase the car I noticed that the speedo and Tach cluster has a scratch on the lower part of the cluster. The dealer gave me $400 credit but does anyone have any idea if this can be buffed out with anything? Would hate to buy the car and find out that there is nothing I can do. Any help would be great. Thanks
