Drivetrain Malfunction
Received this message while driving. Car was shaking violently pulled over and let it sit for a minute and nothing. Drove it to the nearest auto parts store and they pulled error codes of mis firing and fuel rail/system pressure. I also noticed a strong odor from inside coming from the vents like burnt or rubber burning even from the outside. It’s a N55 btw. Where should I even start?

Almost sounds like a problem with hpfp but I never seen that fuel rail/system error before. Could be rail pressure sensor as well.
Fuel is not getting to the cylinder that is why you getting the misfires. |

I think the fuel filter is integrated in the hpfp but you're right sounds like hpfp or lpfp or both. The good news if you look up recalls on your car you might be owed a free lpfp.

Happened to me as well. BMW replaced the HPFP under the service bulletin deal.
Next symptom was similar and ended up replacing coils 3 and 6 and shortly thereafter I replaced all the coils and plugs. But guess what? The pos still cuts off after I start up and try and drive. Weird as it comes to a near stop it wants to stall. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. No codes thrown while this continued to happen so another search in the dark. So my patience ran out and traded it in. Fortunately my wife's 550xi for the most part is Ok. Just replaced 2 coils a while back but not the nightmare mine was giving me. Sure it burned oil every 500 miles or so (normal right?) , lovely engine design. Not going through the Oil consumption test bs or trying to get a new engine route either. So I pulled a 180 and bought a M235i. Night and day between the two cars but i'm happy again. |
