I had the car idling for awhile after I backed it off the lift and out of the shop, and I walked up to it from the rear to leave. I did notice the smell then, but it wasn't a big deal.

I'll be getting the GFB DV+ unit soon. It will be going in with the Pure Stage 2 turbo upgrade. I've been talking with Pure for awhile now and decided this week to make it happen. I have a complete core unit I'm sending them next week so I don't have any down time.
The fumes were the main reason I didn't get a downpipe. You may make me rethink getting one now. Are you still not smelling anything yet?

Nope, it's a complete non issue. These engines are very efficient anyway, it's not like they pump raw sewerage out the tail pipes.

The only time I smell anything is if the car is left to warm up and I walk back to it from behind... and even that isn't a big deal.

I may have to jump on one now. I don't even care about my extended warranty. I'm guessing the stories about the fumes may be related to lesser quality downpipes.

How's the car driving with these mods before you get the updated tune?

The only difference in fumes you would see from one downpipe to the next would be if it is leaking at either end of the downpipe, thus dumping exhaust gas unto the engine bay that would get drawn into the cabin air intake.

The car is driving well, no change in behavior. Turbo spools faster and IAT stays lower.

This morning I actually did a little logging, and I found while cruising IAT stays 3-6F above ambient. Sitting in stop and go traffic sat at 10-15F above ambient. I did a couple 40-80 pulls where space allowed and never saw more than 25F above ambient.

Properly seated dp is a must, also the vrsf I'm using is better when properly seated, but still leaks. Depends what you power goals are. You could pull off a stage 1.5 with a stock dp.

That intercooler looks so well crafted and big compared to the stock one.

Keep us posted on the fmic fitment. Interested to see if your tune negates the lag introduced by larger volume/pressurization. Also does it hit harder with the larger volume once power does come on?

We all know IATs will be phenomenal!

The good stuff:

First thing first I got the car up in the air and ready to work on. Everything else looked perfect, as well it should having just ticked over 20k miles.

As I drove the car a solid 20 miles from my house to the shop I decided to tackle the intercooler first after dropping the under panels. That cat is piping hot!

Look at how whimpy the factory unit looks next to the Wagner.

Installation was a breeze. Fit and finish were great, it slid right up into position with almost no fuss. A tight fit no doubt, but a well engineered one.

Now moving on to the downpipe, we see here the stock catted down pipe which has cooled a bit and is tolerable to be in contact with briefly lol.

Factory downpipe removed

Clolseup of the exhaust housing, wastegate and turbo exducer, everything looks mint.

Factory above ER.

ER installed on the car.

I haven't had a chance yet to look at IAT logs to see how much lower they are but you can imagine its going to be a pretty bid difference.

The turbo spools quicker now, and you can hear it a whole lot more. With the windows up its nary a bit louder, but with the windows down it sounds delicious as the turbo spools and screams.

I'm getting a nice exhaust pop on WOT 1st to 2nd upshifts now too.
Nice, any performance gains from intercooler?

Did this job yesterday installing the intercooler and an AR downpipe. Thanks to Mike with Extreme Power House for getting me parts quickly. The job took me a bit longer then I thought it would but the downpipe has awoken my M sport mufflers. Love how it sounds during cold startup and I don’t think its too loud as it quieted down once it got warm. Just right for me. I will say the install of the intercooler required me to remove the fan as I needed more space to move the hoses around and get the intercooler into place. Overall very happy with the parts. I haven’t had a chance to drive it yet but I still have to load my tune from AA. Looking forward to finished product.

Which AR DP you got? Catless, catted, or catless with resonator?
