Throwing caution to the winds I decided to try the NaviTuning option. Although my phone is refusing to allow bluetooth tethering (probably a carrier issue), to my amazement the process did still work and I now have traffic again. My guess is that as long as the 3G network stays up I'll keep ARTTI without needing to make the tether work.

My system was definitely NOT displaying any traffic data before, so the update absolutely did correct my issue. Also the "enable data streaming via bluetooth" option is now available (and selected) in my navigation options and it wasn't there before.

All that to say, this method does appear to actually work. Obviously won't solve other issues like remote locking, etc. but it's great to have the traffic back and the price is not unreasonable.

Yup, RTTI will work with NaviTuning via 3G until 3G is gone, and then NaviTuning will switch to bluetooth tethering. I believe NaviTuning has officially stated something to this effect themselves as well.

If you want to replace the TCB yourself, you could try to order the TCB for your VIN here. Use the instructions that you expect a configured TCB 4G. This is important, so you don't end up with a TCB 4G which isn't active. When they accept the order for your VIN (provided during checkout), the TCB 4G will delivered configured for your BMW. So you only have to remove the old TCB and mount the TCB 4G.
Do you know if that will work with my stock combox?

EDIT
I see this is the new combox. Will it work with the other components like the HU?

If you send them your VIN they should be able to verify it for you.

At first I thought that I found the solution for my car, but after searching for a couple of hours, I'm even more confused haha! Does anyone on this thread know of the replacement TCB for both a 2105 & 2016 528i? That part #84-10-6-836-777 shows that it fits a lot of cars, but it doesn't look like it fits any F10. Am I seeing that correctly?

The best way to determine a compatible replacement is to start from the part number of the TCB currently installed. According to the BMW ETK the 528i should have a TCB with one of the following part numbers: 84109322955; 84109306222; 84109318586. Check the label on the TCB (located in the trunk) whether one of these do match. In case the TCB has another part number, write it down and use it for the next step.

So lets assume the part number of the current TCB is 84109322955, you can look it up here. In this case, on top

This Product Has Been Replaced By : 84106836777

In case you have the older metal combox, the combox next generation is needed for 4G .

As mentioned, the website lets you put in your VIN and it will tell you if it's compatible. With the NavTuning update, your Navi works the same as before BMW turned off your RTTI. If the Navi algorithm thinks there's an alternate route that's better based on the traffic information, it will re-route you. If it's compatible with their service, you keep your HU. THe NavTuning update also adds a Tethering option to the device configuration screen so a given device can be configured for Telephone, Tethering and Music.

[P.S.] The folks at NavTuning aren't sitting still. They are developing additional capabilities for future releases.

Found a guy on the M3 forum that seems to be something of an expert on this

This is his thread regarding retrofitting the combox and associated hoops BMW is making him jump through. I don't understand all of it yet, but maybe it will be of help to others on this thread.

Great news guys, BMW officially is doing something about the 3g discontinuation and offering free 4G combox retrofits!

Check with your local dealer and the bulletin is SIB 840121

Before you get more excited than an initiate alter-boy's first physical encounter with the opposite sex (aka blow your wad in 5 seconds )...perhaps you should read through the PDF at the following link: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/at...9&d=1628076062

As stated already...the F10/F11 is not listed with the models that are compatible for a 4G/5G telecommunications update. And the models listed...the ones that qualify have iDrive 5 or 6 - upward (I believe the EVO version...anyone that knows for sure can correct this statement).

Yup. Had called my service advisor a few months after also noticing the RealTime traffic was gone, and I was told that the wiring in the F10's isn't compatible with the new combox. A BMW Genius confirmed it as well.

Do we know if the Navituning would also allow for remote ventilation, unlocking, etc., via My BMW app? Or is it just RTTI?
They also mention "basic browser" - does that mean destination finding via Google like it used to be?

If it will be like the 2G to 3G sunset (that already occurred for those with the CIC iDrive systems from the mid 2000s-2013 model yr/build dates)...all BMW Connected services ended.

Contact email for Navituning?

Been trying their website but it says under construction...so, anyone have a contact email for them?

I'm a sad F10 guy who is going to give them a try since BMW has abandoned me like every other F10 owner.

If you go back all the way to page 3 (not taking a shot, I just remembered I read the number earlier this year), you'll find this phone number...

F10/F11 isn't on SIB 840121 because this handles ATM 3G to 4G upgrades only

For F10/F11 (and other BMW's with TCB) you need to ask BMW service to exchange the 3G TCB with 4G TCB which has part number 84106836777

Just retrofitting the combox will give 4G (and therefore RTTI & ConnectedDrive) services? That's probably a DIY with some coding, yes?

Last I read, even if you swap the combox you will still require a trip to the dealer in order to register the car with BMWs servers or something of that nature. I read this on another board and cannot for the life of me find the link for it, will edit this post if I do.
