Reading that will give you a lot more information beyond how long it takes a car to be built from start to finish.

Hi E60orBust,
Thanks for your reply, I did search for 5100 before posting promise , nothing came up, which is why I posted, when I search now I get my post The thread you highlight is quite old, it has 7 posts from 2010, as far as I can see relating to shipping I was actually looking for recent F10 specifc production feedback perhaps from people who recently had cars deliveried? But I do take your point and perhaps I was being too geeky with my search using the codes status codes. A search this morning for paint shop showed up some references http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthre...ght=paint+shop here. Ideally I was looking for a little more detailed information. You guys in the US are so lucky you get a tracking website we dont, I am curious how detailed is it? Does it show the production status codes etc? Thanks again |

hey Paul,
I put your question to my dealer today and he said every stage averages to roughly about a day. He said some stages stay on the screen for barely 6-10hrs before changing and so sometimes dealers do not even see the car progressing through that stage as they do not obviously track very closely. On the other hand, I would dedicate a screen in my to track my in real time - if I could :-) |

Hey SD,
Many thanks for the update really appreciate the additional info thanks for sharing. That's good to know, shouldn't be so long now :-) Yeah I guess they move quick, but the BMW systems are quite clever I bet they can look back on the history if they want to! You and me both ! It sounds like a good argument for all BMW sales staff to have dual head video cards on their PC's One monitor for real work and one monitor for order tracking! Or better still write a web interface that customers can log into real time Cheers Paul |

I wouldn't have moved from the computer in 10 days |

Many thanks for your feedback that's really good information thanks. Where did you get such detail? Was that from calling BMW customer services? Unfortunately we don't have that facility in the UK. I bet you can't wait to get your car :-) I hope the crossing is smooth! Not long now. Now along with SD's GPS that would be cool, but like you say it would be very distracting :-) I think it would be nice to have pictures of the car at the end of each stage to keep a momento! Or even something like a birth certificate, so that you can rememebr to celebrate the cars birthday every year :- ) |

And you're right, I can't wait to get my car (although I will miss my X5), I went into obsessive tracking mode since the car hit Bremerhaven. Followed it from Bremerhaven to Southampton (even found some live webcams and watched the ship leave Southampton). Now if the captain can just avoid hurricane Igor I should have a car in early October. |

@Jeffhoff,
thanks for the further info. Your sales man sounds more customer focused than hours :-) The latest we had from him was he can't see the status change now until its ready for transport to the dealer, of course I don't believe that for one moment! Depending on if you have the new shape X5 or not I think you will see a big difference, the interior of the F10 is very impressive and really comfortable. I guess on the hight of the driving posting and the size of the mirrors the X5 wins. One of the few things I am not convinced on the F10 is the size of the rear view mirrors! Wow that is obsessive :-) Not long now although I am sure it will seam like ages! Fingers crossed the weather holds out :-)! Thanks again Cheers Paul |

Last Saturday 11th Dad was notified his car was in production and given the VIN.
Not exactly sure what status it was at. I assume one of these 3 5050 Chassis Number Allocated 5055 Confirmed by Production Control 5100 Bodyshop Start I assume 5050 and 5055 are quite quick stages. Today 18th Dealer confirmed this morning UK time status changed to 9000 Departed Plant So 7 days end to end maybe a little less. We are now looking forward to 9800 Arrived Dealer!!!! Thanks for all your input everyone! Good luck with your cars! |

BMW use my employer's automation systems extensively. I remember talking to a chap at BMW a few years ago. He was setting up production scheduling codes from the automation system back to the SAP system using an intra web based solution bolted onto the control system.
It's shame they don't show it off a bit more - but maybe the competitors might start to take interest in build schedules....
