Turbo Cooler Lines and Warranty Coverage
So I purchased a 2011 550i a few weeks ago. Love the car! I was driving last week and got a battery error message. The cars goes into limp mode. Finally got it to the dealer the next day. I thought it was just the battery. It turns out the turbo cooler lines were leaking and damaged the alternator. I did get a Safe-Guard warranty with the car.
They are going to cover the alternator but are saying that hoses are not covered. In the warranty coverage under Turbocharged it does cover hard lines and lines. In the other part of the warranty it states that the warranty does not cover hoses. I spoke with them and stated the lines are mostly metal. They stated that a anything with rubber on it is a hose. I am waiting to hear back from a supervisor on this with the warranty company. Worst case-I replace the hoses or take to an indy mechanic as the dealer price replacing is supposedly $2800. This price is way out there. I got the part numbers from the warranty company and looked up the DIY here. Doesn't look to labor intensive. To try and make this short. What is the difference between a hose which isn't covered or hard lines/lines that are covered? Thanks. Part numbers for reference: 115-375-770-15 115-375-770-14 115-375-770-13 115-375-789-87 |

Hey I'm not sure if this is terribly helpful, but maybe when the shop is replacing the alternator or if they have the motor apart, you could just buy the OEM parts and have them installed. Warranty may cover majority of the labor. Just a thought. I had my turbo coolant pump replaced under BMW warranty last month.

I just ran into this issue i had a coolant leak that I thought I fixed, but still smelled burnt coolant. I took it into the shop and my warranty does not cover any type of pipes\hoses (National Warranty) . The dealer is charging me around 3grand for replacement of all the hoses and pipes..
