Can Dead Pedal Be Replaced?
Can the dead pedal in an M-Sport package car (don't know about the non M-Sport), be replaced with a factory one? Mine is all scratched (previous owner), I looked at it and it seems like it's part of the floor carpet and it's built in. Other than going aftermarket or replacing the driver's side carpet are there any alternatives?

Yes, the M Footrest ( Deadpedal ) can be replaced on LHD cars (such as teh USA models)
It can also be retrofitted to non-M Sport models (LHD only) Part number is "51 47 7 960 700" Seems to be around $98

I just got a new dead pedal from a forum member, but it's driving me nuts trying figure out how to remove the existing pedal. By looking at the one that was sent to me, it appears that it's held in place with hot glue.
Any ideas?

The removal of this m-sport pedal seems to be a mystery. Having a hard time finding anyone that's done it. Though seeing the rear portion from your picture leads me to believe it may just be on with adhesive. May have to try the old heat gun....

My hang up is if you look at chili's picture above there are no posts or attachment points. So my guess is it is either adhered directly to the carpet or adhered on top of the standard black footrest. The m sport replacement with the asymmetric rubber stripes comes with an adhesive panel on the back that is just supposed to stick on top of the standard footrest. This may also be how they added the m sport package dead pedal on the f10. I'll wait till I have the replacement in hand, should be here next week.

The factory installed MSport dead pedal is bonded to the carpet with adhesive. Its really really impressive adhesive. I've removed one before, it took some carpet with it.

Yeah, I tried yanking on it and I could hear things pulling behind the carpet and the pedal wasn't going anywhere so I quit. It's still sitting in the garage if you're local to SoCal east of Los Angeles come on by and for $20 it's yours. (I just need to find it now).

That's what I was thinking, I'm going to try heat and possibly some solvent to loosen it up a bit and then try to get behind it and work at the adhesive. I figure any damage to the nap of the carpet will be covered by the replacement part. Thanks for the info.

Well got it done and have some tips that actually make it an easy job. The original m-sport dead pedal is on purely by a few strips of adhesive directly on the carpet. To remove you need a heat gun and small spackle knife or even a flat head screw driver. Simply take the heat gun on low and heat the face of the dead pedal. Be patient and get it hot. Take your spackle knife or screwdriver and get it behind the lip on the long edge towards the bottom corner and apply outward pressure. The pedal will peel away from the adhesive. Take your time and keep applying heat as you move up. It really needs to get hot, the little rubber nubs may appear to look wet as they heat up, it's fine, this part is getting tossed anyway. I had to do some trial and error on the bottom half, I tried getting the heat directly on the adhesive behind the pedal and singed the carpet a bit, but it's underneath the pedal, so luckily go harm done. This is not necessary, just heat the front, the top about 70% peeled right off just with heating the front after I struggled on the bottom. There is a small clip right at the top that hooks behind the undercover of the dash, but once you have freed the pedal from the carpet you just turn sideways and it slips right out. Install of the new pedal is straight forward. Remove adhesive peel and place on carpet. I heated the new adhesive and the carpet area and heated it up just a bit to promote bonding. I put some weights on it for a while and it falls very solid. Getting this one off could be much tougher as the entire contact area on the carpet is covered with adhesive. Knowing what I know now this could have been about a 20 minute job, literally just heat and peel. Caution, the metal part does get hot, so grip by the plastic or wear a glove.
