I clearly remember the first time I heard the phrase.

The custom car shop I worked at in Manhattan had a Diablo that we (among other things) relocated the ECU to fit a 10" subwoofer behind the passenger seat. After a few weeks of working on the car we fired it up and it ran like crap. Of course we were concerned the relocation of the ECU was the problem. After going over our work extensively, we finally decided to drive it over to an authorized Lamborghini mechanic in Manhattan. Jumping ahead- The mechanic hands me back the keys and says "it just needs an Italian tune up." I asked "what is that?" He said "you just need to go over to the West Side Highway and romp on it until it clears itself out. It was just sitting too long." If only you could see the look on my face when I realized I was being given direction to rip a Diablo up and down the west side!

BTW... the mechanic was right. A few miles later the car ran like a champ!

I have purchased cars in the past that ran shitty, hoping an italian tune-up would do the trick, 80% of the time it worked, the other 20% of the time something blew up...still happy with the 80%!
