Oil Usage
I now have 13,000 miles on my 550 GT.. Great car, ride, etc. etc. Only issue is that the car has used 3 qts of oil at this point. Dealer says twin turbo use oil??? Any other comments...

Same issue, but my 5GT is far thirstier. I've added a little over 5qt of oil, with my GT having only 8700 miles on the odo.
Reason dealer service gave me was that the engine still is sealing, and blamed the low mileage. |

Same issue. Had to add a quart every 2000 miles up to 14000 miles so far.

I've only had to add 1 quart for my 7000 miles on my 550i. We'll see if the dealer is right on the "engine sealing" process or if it's an ongoing issue.

My '08 550i used about a quart every 5-7,000 miles when new. I think all newer BMW V-8's will use some oil.
I am not seeing the amounts you guys are - yet - I just changed my oil at 2,500 miles and was still showing full. |

Mine used oil up until about 9000 miles and now it's not using any at all, but I was told that every 2k to 3k miles, you have to top up.

There seem to be a handful of us that have to put oil in our GT's literally every 1,000-2,000 miles. I am one of them and am so annoyed as I cannot get to my BMW dealer 40 miles everytime I need them to put a quart. They claim this is normal and in all the BMW's I've had, I've never had to re-fill anywhere under 10,000 - 15,000 miles. So, just keep adding 5W-30 High Mileage and we could get lucky to eek out 2,500....

That is ridiculous as my dealer gave me a completely different excuse and admitted that not all the GT's will need as much oil as others

I now have 16,000 miles on my GT (550i) and the consumption seems to be slowing down. With my scheduled oil change, I purchased 2 additional qts. to keep at home to top off when needed. Just be careful not to overfill. BTW The oil change was free but they charged for the extra oil.

Industry standards (from what I'm told) don't declare it excess oil usage until it exceeds 1qt/1000-miles. Personally, I'd be annoyed, but that's what the industry says about it (and likely the same thing BMW uses as it might trigger the Lemon Law). Luckily, mine (a 535) has a bit over 10K on it, and the computer says it's still full. The V-8's generally are much thirstier of oil than the I-6.
