iDrive knob replacement from eBay, removing gear shifter trim for P button

Hey guys

I know a lot of people have done this install but did you notice your knob have some resistance and be a little more difficult to spin after putting the top piece on?

Also does anyone know how to remove the silver trim off the gear shifter so that I can change the P button.

Saw a bunch of posts on that and I used a credit card and plastic pry tools from all corners and it seems like I'm doing more damage than good. I don't have m sport so it should be an easy removal for me right

How long have you had it installed for?

I think it's starting to loosen up a bit seems much more fluid now. Regardless… this thing looks so much better than the original one the car comes with so I'm just going to live with it as well lol

Anyone have any luck removing the silver trim around the gear shifter on a non M sport? I've pulled extremely hard with plastic pry tools and have not had any budge. I don't want to rip the leather around the shifter just to change a faded P button

I "think" the plastic gear indicator pops-off and there's a screw underneath. This is from my memory from about 6 years ago, so it is suspect.

I believe the is is for the m sport shifter as it is a little different. The non m sport for a 2012 is supposed to
Just pop off from all the videos I have seen

But who knows if mine is different

I somehow have adaptive vents behind my front grille when most people don't haha

Our 2012 535i had the active shutters, our 2014 doesn't .

IIRC, the silver surround just pops-off...
