Carbon fiber mirror covers installation on 535 F10

There is lot of conflicting information about aftermarket mirror covers installation on 535 F10. I have 2015 535xi F10 and other F10/11 LCI variants are probably very similar or the same.

First thing to know is that you don't need remove a mirror to install aftermarket mirror covers. Mirror cover is held by 3 tabs, see circled areas in yellow:

I got these carbon fiber look a like mirror covers (probably there is only 1 layer of CF on top of plastic but it looks good, we'll see about longevity and color fading) from this seller on eBay for $40.46 which includes the shipping too: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1Pair-Carbo...72.m2749.l2649

First pic on this listing is not accurate, but others are. Also the title of the listing is vague, it mentions M5, but it is M5 style for 535 F10.

Step 1: use trim removal tool (I couldn't find my trim tool, so I used iPhone repair pry tool, similar purpose) to get it under existing mirror cover and gently work it around the edges, it helps if you have 2 pry/trim tools. Go around the edges and tabs will loosen and you can gently pull the mirror cover off the mirror

Step 2: in order to install carbon fiber or any new mirror cover, you need to position it correctly by starting to positioning it correctly from inside towards outside of the mirror (right to left or left to right), and when it is flush with the turn signal indicator, start to push it in.

When pushing it in, make sure mirror cover outer edge is lining up with the mirror and you should hear tabs clicking in place and the mirror should be held in place.

Removal of old mirror covers and installation of new ones should take 5 min per mirror and it is easy. Here is how it looks like installed:

Yes, I've noticed bird poop on the hood :-) The color of these carbon fiber-ish mirror covers is grayish and it is matching my new gun metal wheels which you can see here: https://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1614572

What year is your 5-series? Go to https://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.d...&kind=M&arch=0 under "Serial number" plug in last 7 digits of your VIN, your car should show up, click on "Browse Parts", scroll down on next screen, click on "Vehicle trim" scroll down and find part #s for mirror covers. For my car they are:

02 Outside mirror cover cap, left, primed 1 51167308683
02 Outside mirror cover cap, right, primed 1 51167308684

when I click on 51167308683, I get a list of all cars this part number is used on and that is:

Part 51167308683 was found on the following vehicles:
5' F07 GT LCI   (08/2012 — 02/2017)
5' F10 LCI   (08/2012 — 10/2016)
5' F11 LCI   (08/2012 — 02/2017)
5' F18 LCI   (10/2012 — 04/2017)
6' F06 Gran Coupé LCI   (05/2014 — 09/2018)
6' F12 LCI   (05/2014 — 05/2018)
6' F13 LCI   (05/2014 — 10/2017)
7' F01 LCI   (05/2011 — 05/2015)
7' F02 LCI   (05/2011 — 05/2015)
7' F03 LCI   (01/2012 — 03/2015)

Another way to validate is to remove mirror cover on your car and see if it has 3 tabs in these places (circled in red):

It is just $40, so I've decided to take one for the team and it worked!

How do you like the look? I would rather get a pair that's the same color code as my car

confirm yours first before you order. if you notice he has a turn signal indicator on the lower part of his mirror whereas mine doesn't. i do like that M5 style so i may have to go back and find one that will work with mine since i also paid like $40 for these. it's been a couple of years now and the carbon fiber has yet faded, turned yellow or show any type of blemishing

Yes. Mine's a 2011 base model. I didn't really know much about BMW's at the time.

I like the color, and I like some contrast, the problem with black cars is that other black parts blend in with the body of the car.

Here is the video where you can see mirror covers and the wheels against black body https://youtu.be/OfiUTZKugCk

probably not, but even if they do fit into mounting tabs on the mirror, you'll still have a gap on the carbon fiber mirror covers where turn signal light on the mirror is

Great post. I absolutely love/want these, except I have a 2011, hence no turn signal. Is it an easy retrofit to put on later model year mirrors? These have been sitting in my amazon cart for months so I wouldn't forget lol.

This may be a dumb question - but will the mirror still fold up without any issue?

Just ordered a set. Didn't realize it was this easy to replace the mirrors on an LCI model (mine is 2014). Certainly a lot nicer looking than the ones that stick on with tape! Too bad shipping is estimated at a month.
