And US models were 315 for the e34 and 333 for the e46, so still less in US trim.

"It's more like". I didn't say absolute distance. The way both dashes are designed, that's how it feels.

I miss my e34 touring every day. I still wouldn't mind a 540i/6, but think I'd just go for a sedan. It's just still so damn good looking.

My standard E46 M3 had 252kW, which as far as I’m aware is 2kW more than the S38 in the M5.

E34

One special item I'm surprised he missed was the a feature of the computer to the right of the radio. It had a code button on it where you could put in a number to prevent anyone from starting the vehicle. Really nice security feature way ahead of its time. I miss my E34!

Took a 1.5 hour trip (when I lived in NY) deep into CT to look at a 1991 back in 2011 but had 201k miles and the owner didn’t even do a rebuild yet. Had rust, leaking oil and the interior was 4/10. Funny how the pictures fooled me. Ended up passing on it and got a e39 M5 instead.

Doug trivia: there is one car he has reviewed that he wasn’t allowed to drive. Which one? Winner gets a bag full of nada.

Great car for its time. But best M5s are E60 and F90 IMO. I drove E39, E60, F10 and F90. Among the ones I drove I'd say: F90 > E60 > F10 and way way behind is E39.
I think the biggest leap in M5 history is between E39 and M5. From a fast 5 series (E39 M5) to a real M5.

This is an observation unrelated to the car, but what really struck a cord with me in this review is the pricing of the car. Salaries in most professions haven't kept up with inflation. If you were making say $250k in 1992 you could pick up an M5 easy, but with that salary today good luck getting an M5.

Doug is laughing all the way to the bank. 3.7M subs and tens of millions views. People may not like him but apparently they still watch.

$250k in 1992 is $460k today. I'd hope someone making $460k today can afford and M5 (and just pay cash).

Yeah but most professions paying $250k back in the day don't pay $460k now. Purchasing power isn't what it used to be.

Here’s mine, nowhere near as quick as my 135 but a super fun car to drive. 195k and still going strong!

I'm sure it's sold now but I can't imagine that anyone in the market for an e34 M5 would give a rat's ass what some reviewer on Youtube has to say about the car.

I like Doug's videos but as evidenced by this thread lots of forum members/enthusiasts don't care for him.
