Odometer reading at delivery?

Hi,

Friend of mine took the M850i delivery today in saloon and car had 29km... I think its too much.

How much did you have?

He is from Czech Republic.

In past I took my car 540i and it had 3,7km.
In saloon they told me that time that 10kms maximum would be on meter..

I think 29km/17 miles is reasonable. Everything from at the plant to yard to truck to port to truck to truck to dealership and even possibly a dealership check over. I sure wouldn't worry about it. At some point it will be at the dealership and they are likely to drive it, also adding kilometers.

Ok thx.

I am just curious because its my friend and he doesnt understand cars too much.

29km seemed too much for me because they reset from factory and I had much less 3years ago which I mentioned above.

My M2 had 58 miles on it when I purchased it. Over 20 miles of that was my test drive. The M2 has been fantastic with no real problems.

And was that saloon car or delivered for you?

I am talking about new self-build and delivered car.

Of course on these cars are 100 000kms/miles ok imho :-) I just see weird that friend got car with 29kms after delivery (from neighbour country) and I with 3,7km only.

It was an M2 that someone ordered and backed out of. I wasn't even thinking of getting a new car at the time. I had an M235i in for service and my sales advisor sought me out. He said that he had a car that I had to test drive. I did and bought it the same day.

I love this "doesn't understand cars too much" but purchased an M850i....I'm thinking just maybe you had some influence on your friend

Either way - I think the miles are fine and I hope and trust he will enjoy his new beast

My car had 13km on the clock which was the most I have seen. Normally 3-8km. It was one of the first 8 series in the country so there may have been more dealership familiarization with the car because of this. So I was OK with it. I think in your case it is too much and my guess is there were a few dealer test drives too many, either staff or other customers.

I hope so. I had m850i for weekend and its superb.. I tried also z4m40i and I thought that z4 would be like gokart and fun and 8 no fun...

BUT it was exactly the opposite.. z4 seemed boring to me but 850i super fun.

Its my guess too.. :-/

I have other dealership than him so I hope my will be ok.
But its the X which goes 2 months from the US so it would be probably more than 4 kms like my 5er had

My 5 series had 9 miles on it when I took delivery. I think 29 miles is a little bit much but not a deal breaker. Anything above 50 miles then I'm definitely asking questions.

Mileage will always vary. 17 is very normal.

PDI, test drives, dealer trades, etc.

What do you mean by dealer trades?

Delivered car should be placed on parking and only prepare for pick up or they can use it as presentation to customers? 😱

Test drives : as I know they do test in factory then small polygon and after this it has 0kms/mil. So it should have only something from PDI not ?

Dealers trade cars between one another and are picked up if they're within driving distance. For example my dealership dealer trades with another dealer that's located 40 miles away. There's 40 miles + whatever that dealer put on the car (PDI + test drives). This is very common, especially now with stores struggling to keep up with inventory.

But you talk about stock cars right?

I meant brand new car which you create in configurator and order to yourself.

In my country dealers 100% CAN'T do any tesdrives or something like that with customer cars.
They only can remove the foils, clean and wash car, put it to "after pdi mode" and prepare for customer.

3yrs ago there wasn't a global pandemic either. A few extra clicks on the odometer should be expected.

3-8km is standard from factory to the dealer.
Everything above that, car was driven at port or at the dealer.

The main point was if somebody just didnt have fun with his car because it seemed too much kms for us.

As I have read all the comments above and thinking about my odometer status after delivery it seems the 29kms is one of the highest in after delivery cars..

The engine is most "raw" first 100kms and the break in is in approx 2500kms.

If some employees at dealer had fun with his car it may somehow affect the engine in future.

I understand. Some regional deliveries are being picked up from a remote dispatch lot and need to be driven there. Did your friend take delivery in Prague or Pilsen?
