I went RWD w M Sport and very happy with the choice. The reason is the driving balance has some old school BMW DNA in it. Yes, the car is soft big and heavy, but the M Sport makes the car have some sport feel to it.

good luck
Thanks. It would be ideal if I could drive the 550i and 550xi back to back, but logistically this will be very difficult. There are zero RWD 550 in NY/NJ at the moment. I've called dealerships on west coast but they're unwilling to ship to a sister dealership here without a sale.

What about comparing a 535 or 528? Granted, there will be a power and balance difference, but you should be able to at least get an idea of the difference between the two set-ups.

I have a 535 with DHP, I love the ability to adjust the handling characteristics, but it was a bit floaty with the stock springs. Once I put on the ACS springs, It really woke up the car. Handles so much better, without sacrificing the ride quality. Couldn’t be happier.

I have an LCI (2016) 550i with Msport suspension and it drives and handles surprisingly well. Also, although the steering is electric, it loads up OK in the turns and doesn't feel too numb. The car corners relatively flat, belying its weight.

The run flats also contribute to crappy ride and less than ideal handling.
