High Mileage 535i

My 2011 BMW 535i has 173K miles. It is on original water pump which is incredible. The radiator exploded the other night while parked after driving....I was lucky. I am replacing every hose, radiator, and both aux radiators. Parts cost me $1480 using furious method search engine to look for cheapest parts. The car is in great shape and I replaced the suspension last year. I have replaced the coolant before. It sucks as mentioned before that there is no drain plug. I just loosened the lower hose and made a mess. I used the vacuum method to refill with the Schwaben tool. The tool is worth getting if you own any BMW as it makes it super easy to fill and check for leaks before filling.

This car is super reliable and I still get 30 mpg on highway. Hard to beat.

It's stories like these that make me smile as I just picked up a carbon black m-sport 535i with 105k.

My 2011 535i has 74k miles, and I have owned it since last year. After the purchase I had the brake fluid service done, rear diff bushing (after reading a thread here and after having my mechanic check mine), rear flex disc, front rotors (recently they warped and was getting a vibration), and most recently noticed a slight oil around the OFHG so I will be replacing all three gaskets in the coming days. Most of the stuff I have done was more or less preventive maintenance, and I feel as if I could have gone longer on some of the services but I am OCD and worry too much about stuff breaking. Besides that most of the money spent on the car has been in mods.

I am also thinking about doing the transmission service as I plan on keeping the car a little longer this time. Have you done transmission flush on your vehicle, or are you still on the original fluid? How hard do you drive your car?

I had my dealer do the diff and trans fluids (flush on the trans to catch the torque converter) on out 2012 535i at around 75K miles. According to my SA the "recommended" interval is 100K miles.

I know you said "coming days' if that's the case I highly suggest using your secondary vehicle as that leak around your OFHG is a big issue that could lead to an expensive fix if your belt slips off due to the oil leaking onto it

I am on the original fluid for transmission. I drive mine mostly on the highway, but I definitely do not Baby the car. I also have the BMS JB+ Tune also. The oil pan gasket it just now leaking also. I am replacing that and the engine mounts when overhauling the coolant system. I have had many BMW's over the years. The f10 is built like a tank compared to my kids e90's although I really like those too. My wife's E70 cannot compare to the F10 either.

It's a weepage and I am getting it done as soon as my Indy gives me a quote on gaskets, and transmission service. Trust me I am aware of all the threads that have been popping up as of late on d valve cover leaks.

Sorry to hear that. but congrats on getting to 173K miles.

I have 134K km on my 2011 528i and will probably have to replace suspension parts soon.
May I ask you on what exactly you replaced in your suspension?

This is great news for me. I’m at 139k 2011 535 and I’ve only replaced the front passenger cv boot and brake fluid. I def don’t baby mine. It’s by far the most reliable car I’ve owned next to my e53 3.0.

How long have you had the vehicle, and how many miles have you put on your vehicle? Have you done transmission service, and replace the valve cover gasket on it? How about the cooling system?

I did the valve cover at 160k. I bought the car about 4 years ago with 120k miles on it. I have never changed the transmission fluid.
