F10 LCI Steering wheel

Anyone know if the previous F10 M Performance steering wheel is compatible with the new LCI 5 series?

I was told that the airbags have different part numbers but still not 100% certain if they will work or not. I was going to have one ordered with my car and pick it up next week if possible.

Anyone with a LCI M Sport mind taking pictures of your steering wheel please

That would be great if the steering wheel did in fact fit.

The LCI m sport has the round airbag. The one in the picture uses the old M sport airbag. For it to work. You would need to buy the old M sport airbag for it to work.

Thanks everyone! Guess it will definitely not work, and there is still no airbag out for the new LCI 5 series.

Looking at those 2 pics of the steering wheels, why in the world would you want to change it, the old one look so much better than the LCI.

That's exactly what he's trying to do. His car has a LCI steering wheel and wants to install the old Msport steering. no joy though, don't fit.

Wow, that 2014 M sport wheel seems out of place in this car. I do however like how it has a bigger area to see the gauges. Yeah, the old m performance is visually so much nicer than the LCI M sport.

I drove an LCI with the new M wheel and I'll say I'm not fully impressed for a few reasons:

1- It's THINNER than the current M wheel. The current wheel has a very thick/beefy rim and the new M wheel is noticeably slightly less "beefy". The rim itself is actually larger which I don't love as I like smaller wheels (more sporty) BUT the good thing about that is that you can finally see the gauges easily when the wheel is tilted lower.

2- The bottom piller has VERY cheap and extremely hard plastic. Like a Fischer-Price toy, honestly brought the whole vibe down for me as the current M wheel has sophisticated plastics throughout it.

3- The design of it although more fun and playful/funky/characteristic than my current more somber M Sport (what's more Germanic than that? ) wheel doesn't fit the mature and sophisticated/elegant nature of the F10 interior so much. It works great in the 3 Series though not as good as that said more serious pre-LCI M Sport wheel on the 5 Series.

All in all, it's a preference thing and I wouldn't kick either out of bed, but I do prefer how my current one feels in not only grip but material quality but also in aiding to the ambiance at hand.

. I really like this wheel. It feels much better to me than the wheel it replaced, and much more in character with the MSport theme. It's nicely wrapped and stitched and slightly less padded (which is a good thing) than the 2013 MSport wheel. I'm enjoying it.

Awesome man! Looking into this now.

The M6 wheel visually looks 10x better.

Now I need to find a part number for the M6 6spd steering wheel for my 6spd F10 LCI.

I wonder if the heated steering wheel function is able to be swapped over?

Also they look VERY similar in size, usually most M wheels are thicker overall but this one looks to be the same?

Installed in a F10. M1/M2 buttons do not work but I think everything else is a direct fit.

The LCI has the M sport wheel. totally different than the M performance wheel depicted in one of the opening posts. either way, both sport wheel and m sport wheel are much better in the pre LCI form. The m performance wheel is even better. Not sure if they have an m performance wheel for the LCI models yet.

I am selling my sport wheel if anyone is interested. let me know. thanks.

Same here... I'm glad my vehicle came with this steering wheel. I would have been happy with the previously wheel which is more conservative looking, but with an Msport package, I think the new one is a better fit.

Called the BMW parts center and the guy gave me these two part numbers for the wheel.

7846035
7846029

One is for the wheel, $1048.82 and the other for the trim piece $149.26

However I'am hesitant to order the wheel with the new car because the airbag part numbers are slightly different? Wonder what the actual difference is, some people said it could be the way it deploys since it is made for a M6 IE: Different cabin dimension.

I don't think so, I think the OP wants to change his nice wheel with flat bottom with the ugly LCI one.

What I don't get is, since when has it been considered an "upgrade" to have a less padded and skinnier/bigger steering wheel? For decades every new iteration of car, and every more exclusive and/or sporty package came with beefier and more padded steering wheels. Did that just peak with the pre-LCI M Sport wheel or something? Maybe it's 'cause I have big hands but I love the extra thick, padded feel from my pre-LCI M wheel, and when I drove the LCI with the new M Sport wheel I felt that the larger diameter (though I get the necessity for easier viewing of gauges) and skinnier feel/less padding made it physically "feel" cheaper and less sporty. I guess BMW assumes that the cute and cheerful design of it over the conservative design of the pre-LCI one is enough for people (not to mention the insanely hard/cheap plastics used on the new one when the pre-LCI one is all soft touch plastics).
