There is a manual on their website that mentions this... Sadly they don't send that information in the box, which they should but I am glad I figured it out lol. Just had oil change and didn't wanted it spilling all over.

For those too lazy to go look for it, copy pasted from their guide:

Breather / Oil Cap install guide

1.Using a twisting motion, and possibly a flat blade screw driver to gently pry up. Remove the factory oil cap top, and bottom. (The oil deflector can stay in place)

2.Using a pick or small screwdriver, carefully get under the factory rubber gasket, and pry it up and out of the factory oil cap.

3.Push the factory oil gasket into the machined opening in the breather or oil cap until it is even on all sides.

4.For the oil cap simply line up the tabs, and twist to it snaps, and install is finished.

5.For the breather line up the tabs, twist until it snaps, install the filter, and tighten with a screwdriver, nut driver, and install is finished

6. Note: For breathers, make sure you hear the ball moving inside, if not give it a quick tap against something to free it, they can get stuck during shipping, as they are shipped dry, once on the car, and subject to oil mist this will no longer be an issue.

Yea, you need to transfer the gasket from the factory cap over. I'd buy another oil cap to keep in the trunk, just in case you need to seal everything up for some reason, and don't need to worry about transferring the gasket.

Funny, I just passed smog last week and forgot to change the cap. tech did not say anything though. Even had stock cap in trunk, just forgot to swap it out.

Quick update. Not sure what's going on with the gasket situation, but my breather came with the gasket pre-installed. I tried to double up and couldn't get the breather to seat deep enough to be able to turn. Going to replace the original gasket with the new one, see how that is. You can tell how much tighter the factory cap is than the breather, the breather is much easier to turn compared to the factory cap.

Mine with OEM gasket sit flush and it tighten just like OEM cap. I did some spirited driving on highway and so far no leaks.

Very interesting. The gasket they sent me is thicker than the gaskets already installed, in both the breather and cap. I guess they assumed the one that came with the breather was too thin so just sent me a thicker one to try to solve the issue. Tried the thicker one and still felt like it was a bit too easy to turn so instead I doubled up with the 2 original gaskets, and it's much tighter. We'll see how it goes.

In the attached image, you can see how the OEM and the original one appear to be basically the same thickness. When you use the two together, it sits almost perfectly flush relative to the breather. Bottom one is the new gasket.

No other gasket was on my breather cap as you can see from the previous post but I just installed OEM gasket taken from the original cap:

I'm almost 100% positive there's another gasket under the OEM one for yours, because that's exactly what my doubled up gasket looks like. Flush on the outer edge and slightly bumped up on the inner edge. This is my breather with just the gasket that came with the breather. Red arrow pointing to the gasket, and I circled the little lip that clearly shows where the gasket starts and plastic breather part ends.

Edit:

This is the picture from your post:

It's hard to see but you can definitely see the gasket that you've covered up with the OEM one.

You can't even tell that is a gasket. I'll have to check later but when I first installed it that piece of shining just like the metal around it. But I will verify. If it is a gasket then it is some B's shit or it was meant for n54.

Maybe there's also different revisions? Like one that came with a thicker plastic part, and ones that came with a gasket instead? Who knows.

On VTT's website, the breather is marketed for N54, so who knows.

I did as well, I got it from them when they were running that sale. But in the end, VTT is specifically marketing this for the N54

We're just figuring out what came with the breather, but regardless you should transfer the OEM cap's gasket over.
