M5 Sway bar fitment problem on a NON Msport 535
I took my 2012 535i X drive (non M-sport) to the shop to get a front M5 sway bar and a rear 550d sway bar installed.
The rear bar was a perfect fit. The mechanic tried to fit the front bar, but said the brushing wouldn't fit properly because it didn't sit flush against the frame of the car (I think its the frame that the brushing is screwed into??) He pointed out that the brushing so too close to curved portion of the bar. Does that matter? Could he just of shifted the brushing? I tried to search the forum, but it appears all the 535's with M5 bars installed are M Sports, so I'm wondering if there are any non Msport owners who have successfully installed the bar. |

Sorry for been off topic here but I have a question:
What is the difference between the M5 Sway Bar and stock that makes the handling so much better? I understand not having one and putting one in vs. replacing it? I have 2013 535xi non-MSport and wondering if it will fit on mine. Please update with your project. Thank you

Not sure what your mechanic means by not sitting flush against the frame?
Is there a gap between the bush and the frame or is the bush to large? Remember that there is a piece of metal that sits between the frame and the bush (it's clearly visible in Alan I's photo, just on top of the foremost red circle). This piece of metal holds the bushing inside the U-shaped metal tab that surrounds the bushing. Without this metal tab the bushing will have a lot of free play and won't sit flush against the frame. But a bit strange if your mechanic didn't notice these tabs when he pulled out the original sway bar... |

But, at least on my car, the two sides matched up without any issues at all. The sway bar is fully moveable up and down before attaching it to the links on either side. The links on each side is also in the exact same height when both wheels are unloaded (or loaded on a level surface). But I don't think this is the issue the mechanic was having. The OP said the bushings wasn't sitting flush against the frame. |

Yes, that looks correct. It should fit perfectly.
