N63TU Oil Cooler Valve

Those that have installed the oil cooler valve, what have been the average oil temps during moderate use. I’m considering installing one during my next oil change, I live in Texas, but I’ve also read that it’s important for oil temps to stay above 212 degrees Fahrenheit so that water and other deposits are removed from the oil. Any thoughts? Even after abuse in texas heat I’ve never seen my oil temp close to 250 degrees.

I've had it for about 50k miles. Temps stay between 190-210 depending on speed and weather. Idling or driving in traffic it will sometimes get up to 215+.

I live in Florida.

It doesn’t concern you that the oil isnt getting hot enough to burn off deposits? I suppose a good test would be to do an oil analysis prior to install and then post install and see if there is an increase in deposits or water after 5k miles, my personal oil interval.

No. The temp we see isn't necessarily the hottest the oil gets on its path through the engine. Also, it doesn't have to get exactly 212 to begin to evaporate contaminants.

And even aside from what can by categorized as "just my opinion", I get regular oil analysis so I'm aware if anything is operating abnormally. All of my results have come back without concern.

I know this is a n63 tu post but I have an 11 non tu. And I was told to get the oil cooler valve too. By a knowledgeable friend who has had his for quite some time with many mods. But he lives in Atlanta and I live in Ohio. But I still in cold weather see my temps around the same 210-225 depending if I’m pushing her hard. I did just get an inspection at bmw the mechanic told me that my car was driven by a nun do to it’s condition, however I’m adding a lot of things this winter and I’d like to keep the car for a while. What do y’all think.

All the information above applies to a nonTU as well. Actually more so because the nonTU has more cooling issues in general.

Thanks so much ya I do have a relative knowledge of the non tu heating issues. Really all the hot v 's run hot just the s63 has larger turbo air coolers.
Which is another thing does anyone know if I can buy some used s63 coolers and use them for the n63.

The larger cooler doesn't really help with overall engine temp reduction, just more efficient when cooling in boost. S63 still suffers from most if not all the problems N63 does.

You can swap the M5 charge coolers but it requires some modification and doesn't gain you much.

Thanks ya we'll I figure as I mod it that's something I was thinking of doing to be able to push the car a little more. The m5 coolers. But if I go meth injection anyway would the coolers really make much difference. Idk. It's not something I here about or have seen so just a curious thought 💭

You'd be better of with alpina ICs. Direct fit and almost the same efficiency as the M5 coolers.

With meth, the stock coolers are plenty.
