Most Boring engine living inside a superb looking car [THE F10] 2 N52N
Hi there how many of you own an F10 N52B30 engine. I’ve driving it about two years now and the only fun part is the driving and the great chassis it gives. However talking about engine wise. I can only say it’s a reliable engine but it does not give you a decent AMONT of mileage per tank even without the turbo.
I’m not looking for something nuts fast but just fun once in a while. Of course the simplest coil ignition plus and changed air filter with Bmc stock replace airflow since they don’t make any good coverup ones for this car. Refurbished or should I say changed all the bushings engine mount even the gear mounts to its original hoping to bring this beautify back to its former glory. Oh the only one thing I couldn’t stand was the drive swing when turning corners so I added in a 19mm(from13mm)rear anti row bar. And a 3mm spacer. Can anyone tell me what I should do or what my choices are? Maybe Putting a turbo to get close to N55? What materials/parts will I be needing? I know all other related parts must be upgrade for that (ie brakes/suspension/intake muffler etc) in which I’ll plan to do on the next stage. So as for the engine , can anyone gimme some good advices to maybe what you have also added a turbo to your NA N52. Or just stick with the N55’s build kit and convert it to the N52? I don’t know . Fuel injectors would have to go.. etc.. supercharger?! I love the sound and the flash response it gives. Would that mean a more complicated build will needed to build up on? oh and the engine ECU DME, does it also mean I have to swap the entire ECU or programming the DME would work? And again I’m not tooking to tune out my car but I just wish I can have a little fun whenever teens are provoking lol (on the safe side of coz) If anyone of those might interest you, please leave me an idea a comment a shout out heck or even a complaint of what other stuff I need to consider and that haven’t. They would be all welcome and highly appreciated . Last edited by odobike; 03-05-2025 at 02:51 PM.. |

You can add a supercharger to the N52, but would be silly to add a turbo.
https://22rpd.com/shop/product/167 If you want a N55 car, sell what you have and buy one. Then upgrade away! You can even get a N20 car and get an aggressive tune. But the N52 is pretty much what it is... solid, dependable, not easily upgraded for more hp. You already have the three stage intake manifold on it, so are close to maxing out unless you get a supercharger. |

I bought an early F11 528i/530i (depending on country) with the N52 190kw/310nm version specifically because I didn't want the hassle of the N20 which seems to be a lot less reliable and my wife doesn't really need the power of an N55. Plus I have my M6 for actual speed
![]() I did look into a few options early on but with the 3 stage intake manifold, any exhaust or intake mod will result in virtually nothing. The only thing I could really find is the MILV mod which adjusts the cam lift - effectively the same as putting in a slightly more aggressive cam into a car without variable cams. https://www.bimmermilvs.com/ I frankly just can't be bothered to do the labour for the job, plus I'm guessing a tune really would be needed to benefit from this as well.

Have you ever dynoed your N52 engine? Personally, I think it delivers decent power with just a few minor mods. For a naturally aspirated setup, the on-wheel power is actually quite respectable. F10 (4).pdf |
