f10 535i n55 oil separator/catch can?

Hey everyone,
I'm interested in installing an oil separator/catch can on my wife's f10 535i. I've done some searching but cant't find info on a specific kit or DIY. Has anyone installed one and can guide me with this?
Thanks,
Anthony

Very popular with imports but haven't seen one done on a F10 so maybe it's really not needed? Maybe the tech gurus will chime in

apparently the n54 engines had a very big issue with valve gumming due to oil blow-by. Thus the advent of the popular walnut blasting service. This is an issue with any direct injection engine, such as our n55s.

dont think this is entirely true. The 2.0T Volkswagen motors suffers from oil blow by. There are a few enthusiast that have installed a catch can and saw a lot of oil collected over a short period of time.

I am not sure if BMW has done a better job though.

I recall an independent BMW garage (UK) stripping an N55 to inspect and perform a walnut blasting. They were surprised how clean it was in and around the inlet valves, compared to running the N54 with similar use/mileage.

BMW claimed to improve the crankcase ventilation system in the N55 design.

They seem to be used on the 335I N55 as well. I didn't put one on my e90 335i with n54 and JB4 and it definitely has oil all over the intake ducts at 115k miles. Hate to think what the valves look like, but I am selling it now that I got an F10. I think it has more to do with how much you run at WOT and high boost which pushes more oily air past the turbo and back into the intake system... I have a lead foot so think it would be a good idea on the 535i... (which is why I read this thread and am shopping for one.)

Burger Tuning. $180 I am looking at making one for my N63TU. This is what you need to do if you let too much oil cake in there. Lots of videos around of walnut shell blasting intakes to remove the gook.

::Oops just realized they only have e60 kits and 3 series kits. It cant be hard to fabricate something in there, but I would love a factory looking kit too::

Any updates on this? I am currently shopping for an Oil Catch Can for my N55 535i. From the research that I have seen, it looks like there is still a good amount of blow by that can collect on the N55 valves and I would like to reduce that as much as possible.

One of the best catch cans on the market below. I have over 50,000 miles on mine, don't let the price fool you. It's baffled with a 50 micron bronze filter, it catches Everything. Even water vapor. You won't believe the crap it catches. The Bronze filter is key. It does a better job then catch cans costing 10 times as much You will need to check it every 3000 to 5000 miles to empty and clean/replace the bronze filter.

Sweet info! Do you know of a DIY for this? If not, you should do one!

Thanks for the info. The catch can you posted looks nice, but I'm not sure what the 3rd port is for? Can you shed some light on this?

I bought that one (well, the 2-port version for my N55) but the connections are too small. It appears the barbs are 3/8" and the stock hose is 3/4". I've been searching all afternoon (LITERALLY, about 5 hours' worth!) and can't seem to find an adapter. The site says the fitting is 3/8" NBT, but the guy at NAPA says it's 5/8". Either way, I need a 3/8" (or 5/8") NBT to 3/4" barb, or a 3/8" to 3/4" in-line adapter.

So far I'm disappointed and plan on returning it.
